I usually make a second (or third) pot of coffee around now, but can I have a very large beer instead? Preferably a dark Belgian sour? For the first time in 155 stories, I actually got 20 votes on one. It doesn't come with a bonus anymore, but at least it's one less thing to fret over. Cheers.

Oh, Miss Verity ... Yoohoooooo???

It looks like something happened to change the comp listing displays. They appear to now be listed in highest score within highest vote order and Rumps own Miss Verity had claimed the top spot, last time I looked worship :worship: :worship:

A very large G&T for me and whatever Miss Kimmi is drinking. Stick it on my tab. I'll be in booth 3 giving Miss Kimmi a bit of correctional therapy. Thwack...

I'm a time traveller from the future. I could tell you more, but I don't want to pollute the timeline.

Fuck meeeeeeee! Disregard above. I just tried another friend post listing my comp piece and I can't see it. I give up!!!! Leave the bottle please... drinkies

Come and sit with me. We will put the world to rights over a large gin.

Y'all gone crazy up in here!!! loon

Great, I will fit right in!

I just submitted my 2nd attempt at a comp piece. "Mirror, Mirror, on the Wall" if anyone wants to print it, then shred it, and use it as cat litter after it publishes. Hoping I let this one stay in no matter what. (Face-plant) Having a serious lack of confidence which I fucking hate! Grrrrrrrr! I guess most writers go through this every now and again.

May I have a rum and coke, please ... hold the coke. drinkies

I've had a look Miss Kimmi, can't see it yet, must be in mod limbo. I will keep an eye out. I had a nightmare with mine. I was writing several stories at the same time. I managed to get some names mixed up. I had to delete it, make the changes and re-post it. I know they don't count the public vote but it meant I lost 16 votes. Ho, hum. I'll know better next time. Large G&T with more G than T please.

Your story was amazing as-is, Verity, and has very strong legs already! ❤ I understand about writing the long ones though. My sweet spot is 100-1500 words and I'm about to submit my comp piece at probably under 4000.

Thank you my dearest Kimmy. You have always been so very kind to me. I know my limitations, I'm really useless at long stories. I just thought that Honey Trap had potential. I know people are not allowed to steal ideas for fear of being banned so I wanted to give it away freely to anyone who wanted it. I will look forward to reading your entry. I know it will be superb. You always inspire me, and many others in your group. Kindest regards, Verity

Hello everyone. I wrote a story for the comp. I didn’t do a very good job as longer stories are a bit beyond my reach. It’s called The Honey Trap if you want to have a look. Anyway, as I said, I didn’t do a very good job but I feel the story has real potential. Obviously I haven’t read every story on Lush, but I was surprised that my tag ‘honey trap’ was the only one. Basically what I’m trying to say is, if any Lush writer wants to take and develop the story, please feel free. I really do feel it has legs. It just needs one of you very clever Lush writers to do your magic. I’m not asking to be a co-writer or receive any credit. I just want someone else to make a better job of it if they want. Perhaps there is even a series in it, “Confessions of a Honey Trapper.” Regards, Verity

Never mind the tea or coffee, fill my glass with gin, I've had a bad morning and am currently sulking.

Hello, I just popped in to give James a little slap. Where is he hiding?

In truth, there is no way to fully protect a web page. All you can do is stop the casual user. Any older version of Internet Explorer will allow you save any page to MS Word. Browsers like Opera will also let you save pages as a PDF with a single click.

True enough, but still doesn't hurt to have some control. In the end, we've had the old site scraped multiple times in spite of Nic and Gav's best efforts to prevent it but that's not a reason to make casual misuse easier.

Yes of course. My problem is dyslexia, I find it very difficult to read stories over a few hundred words or so. I like to listen to them with TTS.  Unfortunately, a lot of locked paged don't allow that. I have to save them to either MS Word or PDF first. Then I can choose any voice in TTS. I will be listening you your horror story later. I do hope it's not too scary.

Has anyone seen mention of the option to require a comment to vote? It is so aggravating to suddenly get a 3 or 4 against all 5s and not have a clue what you missed or could have done better. I understand it's sometimes just a distaste for the subject matter ("Lezzies creep me out!" is my favorite so far), but it's still nice to know.

I think it's just jealous haters. I'm not the world's greatest writer but I still have my haters. I often get ones and twos. They never have the balls to leave a comment. I don't worry about them. They are too thick to realize it still counts as a vote. One of the reasons they don't leave a comment is they can't string a sentence together. Just laugh at them. You are a brilliant writer and an inspiration to me. Regards, Verity

Likes make sense for forum posts. For stories, I'm on the fence.

As far as I can figure, stories here should have either likes or a score. Not both. Trouble is, if we ditch scores and just go with likes - as has been suggested many times in the past because the voting system is subjective at best and scores in the lower numbers shouldn't get past moderation - people who live and die by numeric popularity will be disappointed.

But if we keep scores then Likes don't seem to add much. And, if anything, dilute the rating space.

It's a tough one.

As to your question, votes (and presumably likes) will still only play a small part in the competition process. The story quality and how it fits the theme are the overriding factors. Whether likes are taken into account or not for shortlisting, I have no idea.

I must admit, I found the whole judging thing a bit odd at first. I’ve got used to it now. Initially I thought it was a readers vote. Getting a higher readers score than the podium finishers and not even managing to make the top ten was very odd indeed. It almost felt like coming first in a race only to be told that I actually came last. But now I realise that my writing isn’t up to the required standard to merit serious consideration. I’ll still keep entering though, just for the sake of entering and making up the numbers.

I too find the "LIKE" button a bit of an oddity. What does it actually do? As far as I can see, nothing. I've had people discover me, go through many of my stories giving them a like. Yes, it's nice to know someone likes my stories but it's not very helpful in getting a story ranked. Wouldn't it be easier if we just had a thumbs up, thumbs down button. Unless Lush uses the like button to rank stories, what's the point of having it? What would happen if I entered a comp, got 30 votes but a million likes?

Is there any way one can print out a story once published - Lush 1 had a pdf provision so I could print and read the story away from the PC. Lush 2 seems does not seem to have it or I cant find how to.

Not at the moment, but will hopefully return
If you download Opera Browser it allows you save the whole page, including pictures and comments, as a PDF. The formatting is excellent. Everything comes out exactly as seen on the monitor.

Good morning all. For those of you who have a foot in both camps, there's a new comp over on the blue. The theme is "Spooky." I already have my scribble in. I'm sure they could do with a few more entries, so pop on over and get scribbling. You know you want to.

Hi Rumpies! wave

If anyone's looking for something sexy to watch "Sex Life" on Netflix is pretty good. By good, I mean what looked to be a 9-inch penis was shown in all its glory! biggrin :rotflmao:

To sweet Apple, Michelle, Sprite, thank you for the hugs about Mom in Project Semicolon thread. kiss

I think I'd like a lemonade please and I'll be in the corner writing. I miss Rumps and hope he's okay. I hope he knows what an important part of Lush he's been! heart

Gosh, is it a film about men with small willies?
