I am in the medical field and have cared for many cancer patients. Some are still here and some are not. I have shared good news and hugs and bad news and hugs. I have shared in the tears and have had last good-byes. Cancer does not discriminate. It crosses all boundaries.
Although Breast Cancer usually occurs in women, Breast Ca in men is on the rise so not only should women do monthly BSEs but so should men. Whether you do a BSE or not is each individual's decision but at the very least, one gets to know his/her breast tissue. Lumps, masses, sensitivities, skin texture, etc. become more evident. This is how many of the people I have worked with discovered their masses. They did a BSE and realized that an area was different, it just wasn't right. They brought that to their Doctor's attention. The cancers were caught early and treatment began without delay.
Let's remember that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and that brings to light not only Breast Ca but MANY OTHER Cancers. People and Survivors of all types of cancer are supportive. Also, any research done that gets us one step closer to a cure for ANY cancer, helps us get one step closer to a cure for ALL cancers.

Please remember that if a BSE saves even one person's life then it is well worth it, so please don't say 2 minutes of one's time is not worth it because China did a study.
