Author's Notes

"For the June writing challenge, I wrote two poems on the themes of “Mermaid” and “Waterfall.” I chose to explore love and lust. The “Waterfall” poem won in its category. Several people have asked where they can read the poems, so I am publishing them here."

Theme - MERMAID

Lust Lies

She surfaced from the ocean’s floor,

and opened her iridescent door.

A siren’s song swirled from her tongue,

I dived in way beyond blue.

She lured me to her stormy abyss,

and seduced me with a perilous kiss.

Her crown, black kelp, a tangled web,

submerged me on the floor.

She spewed me from her tidal wave,

ashore, I gasped and drowned.

Love’s myths they were dispelled,

lust’s lies strewn on the floor.

Theme - WATERFALL (Winner)

She's A Waterfall

I need a little peace of mind,

my mind a deafening roar.

My heart is weighted to the ground,

love’s debris all around.

Beside a river that does not flow,

regret anchors me down.

Then a cool mist kisses over me,

water cascading down.

I step into the waterfall,

mind’s chatter quieting down.

She crashes water over me,

love’s regret washing me down.

Emerging in the turquoise mist,

she is my waterfall.
