As the sun begins to set
Beyond a sea of blue
Once again, As always
My thoughts turn to you

I don’t remember now
Why or how we chose to part
All I know for certain
Is you broke my heart

Each day that goes by
My melancholy grows
Despair envelopes my soul
Worse, now everyone knows

That you have gone
Left me all alone
My poor sweet horse
Gets to listen to me groan

The horse's ears prick up
There, a ways down the beach
Is that you? No, couldn't be
You are still far beyond my reach

An illusion that has come
To test if I still care
Or see if I am totally lost
In the depths of my despair

The pace of my steed increases
But still, I refuse to believe
My eyes have tears from the sand
Of course, they would deceive

You wouldn't return, surely not
Not after all that you said
I cannot hope, I refuse, I won’t
Yet already I feel the lifting of dread

Urging my horse faster
His trot becomes a lope
Is it really you?
I am so afraid to hope

I stop my horse as I draw close
With a splash and spray of the sand
Jumping down off of his back
I ask, “When did your flight land?”

Such a silly thing to ask
For it doesn't really matter
You have returned to me
I won’t become mad as a hatter

I am happy, thrilled that you've returned
Yet also so afraid to trust, believe
I love you so very much, yet
I cannot have my heart again deceived

You apologize, profess your love
And ask me to forgive
To always, stay right by your side
Together, forever, is how we will live

As we now ride our horse together
Towards the setting sun's beautiful view
My thoughts turn to our future, the one
Where a single heart now encompasses two.
