Posting links with short text?

As you can see on my signature, all the links I have there, and in my Profile, and every forum post I’ve ever made, show the full text of the URL spelled out. I see lots of people whose links have shorter non-URL text displayed, which is a lot cleaner.

How do I do this? I’ve found a couple of threads in the search that talk about it, but since they’re working, I can’t see the link code that makes them work. I know some variation or combination of [ CODE ] and/or [ URL ] tags is needed, but I’m not getting it quite right. Can someone tell me what is wrong with this attempt:
Buff Bluff in Banff
Copy the URL

Highlight the text you want as the link

Paste the URL

The highlighted text should become a link to that URL. Like this.

A strange little something for Halloween.

Strange Rites

Thank you for this. I was scratching my head trying to figure it out.

If you enjoy BDSM or fetish based stories, have a look at my collection.

My current Series: "Faye's Secret Art Projects" (Part One was awarded a recommend read)

A kinky story of how a horny university student stumbles into a relationship with her dominant art teacher.

It's not just you, it's not very intuitive. And it does have quirks, for example if the URL contains spaces then it borks everything. Or if you use "paste as plain text" by mistake, then it obliterates the highlighted text.

Do you now have to purchase an upgrade to change your forum signature? I used to know how to do that. I guess I could use a refresher. Thanks.

I don't think you need a subscription. See this thread for a how to smile

Gold or platypus subscription required.
