I think blocking Forum posts is going to make the Forum much less entertaining.

Oh, the thrill is gone.

Oh poor Buz... I hope this gives you some entertainment in the forums... or at least a nice view.

I completely agree with this. I would love nothing more than to see the block here to the same level that Facebook has their blocks... and I also respect that will take a lot more work on Gav's part. However, if it were to be in anyway possible... I'd like to see the blocks extend to the timeline. So, when someone you have blocked quotes you to try to stir trouble, they won't be seen whatsoever.

I get that if Member X quotes Member Y and I have Member Y blocked I will see their post... and that's fine. Member X has the right to say and/or quote whatever he or she wishes... but if Member Y quotes me... I don't want to see their nonsense in my timeline. After all... that's why I utilized the block feature in the first place.

So if this is a possibility Gav... could you please look into it?

Yes the level of block face book has is great, once blocked they are gone, you never see that person again, no comments, no post no nothing, and they can not see your wall.

What ever you can do Gav, we all appreciate it...

This is a dark day in lush history.

What happened to the wellmademale who used to remind trolls he was around when the Internet was invented? The Wellmademale who used to brag about mentally beating trolls into submission and sending them back to their mommies slapped around and crying.

What happened to the wellmademale who used to dump chicks for getting fat? The wellmademale who used to brag about cheating on broads and meeting up with random whores from adultfriendfinder to hit it and quit it. The Wellmademale who used to snort coke off of married women's assholes without a second thought.

What happened to the Wellmademale who would have come into this very thread to laugh at all the crybabies and equate a block feature to using bumpers while bowling? The wellmademale who was a cut throat take no shit from anyone Internet original. The wellmademale who used to call himself an - alpha dog.

...now the wellmademale we have is a weak neutered version who wears dad jeans, a fanny pack, Birkenstock sandals with socks and a shirt that says "no bully zone".

What a fucking disgrace.

I think instead of requesting more and more additions to this block feature, people need to perhaps change their log in page to their profile page instead of the timeline.

If you don't want anyone looking at your page, perhaps you should deactivate your account when you log off.

Maybe, just maybe, people need to shrug their shoulders and move on. Or go outside and enjoy something else. If lush is that annoying you need blocks from here to Timbuktu, perhaps go Enjoy your Facebook instead.

This wide range block feature is doing nothing for the lush community. If anything, new members will not feel as welcome as they should.

Three posts, two deletes...just to make sure I see it on my timeline - three times.

5 years going and you still can't just swim past that bare shiny hook. Same old Jeff.

Though I was joking for the most part I was serious about your cringeworthy transformation from alpha dog wellmademale to please don't bully me wellmademale. At least alpha dog Jeff was funny with his threats, mass email gotcha moments, angry outbursts and stories of glory days past. Please don't bully me Jeff just makes me kinda sad. Like watching a blind toothless broke dick dog.

Why are you so negative to suggestions or questions? This makes people not want to open there mouth. Maybe if you read the entire comment and not pick pieces out you would understand... Moving on past this...........................

Oh, I'm sorry you took my opinion as being negative.

As a Lush OldTimer, I've learned how to handle the Lush Dramas after my first time here. I've become more laidback realizing some people are shit disturbers, others just love every one, some just need to be heard. I get it.

Anyways, I haven't taken offense with your reply to me (if that was your intention) . My comment was with regards to the Fanatical Blockers. Sometimes stepping away gives clarity and perhaps seeing others in a more tolerant light.

Best regards,
Van

I do agree many of your posts in this thread have been rather negative, and really... if someone wants to be a "Fanatical Blocker", why do you care? You can set your profile to show next to nothing except to those on your friends list. There is a clear difference between a disagreement of opinions versus blatant personal attacks. I've had interesting conversations with people that often end in a "agree to disagree" because neither of us will change our view... nor will we change the view of the other person.

Those who want vote blockers will always want this. Personally, low scores don't offend me. Often, those folks will also explain why in a comment they have scored my story that way. Besides... a very knowledgeable Mod told me after 20 votes those "low" scores fall off anyway. Not sure how true that is but it's all good. If I didn't want people to vote, I'd set my stories that way.

In the three years I've been on Lush, I can count on one hand the number of "members" I've blocked. Often, the ones who push the envelope the most either get their accounts deleted or they just leave. The few who remain either learn to behave or become more compliant. Either way, the block helps bring some much needed peace for those who wanted it and felt it necessary.

I don't think this block feature will deter new members... it's empowering. Maybe it won't reach the level that Facebook has... but even if this is as far as Gav is willing to take it, it's still a damn good thing.

Again, going forward, only post if you've any feedback/suggestions to share in regards to the new block feature.

Any opinions aimed towards individuals and not the new block feature should be shared via PM.

This thread is meant to be productive. Let's keep it that way.

Please and thanks.

So let's see if I understand how the new block system works: if I blocked someone, I wont see their forum posts (which is great!) but they will still be able to see mine and posts nasty/sarcastic messages after mine? Is that correct?

If so, while I understand that these so-called trolls are just being a nuisance, would it be possible where the block even extends 2-ways? Meaning: once a block is in place, both parties dont "see" each other anymore. Wont this cut down even more the drama that goes on? Just a suggestion. smile

p/s - dont yell at me if this suggestion has been mentioned earlier...there are just too many irrelevant posts in this thread to scrutinize all of them. biggrin

You do understand the block correctly. And while I agree with your addition about it being a two-way block, if someone continues to post nasty/sarcastic messages about someone that has blocked them, the only people who would see them would be the Mods (of course) or those who have not blocked that person. The only way the member who blocked them would see these would be if the troll quoted the member as it does appear in the timeline... the one thing I do wish the block would extend to as well. Oh... and if they log off and look at the forum (but why anyone would do this is beyond me) as Gav has stated on the first page of this thread.

I think your suggestion is valid.

So pretty much everyone else on the site.

...

The only thing a two way block will do is inform people you have blocked them... creating more drama (hilarity) because they can just log off and see what you posted anyway. A two way block will just let someone know every single person who has blocked them. They could do any number of malicious (hilarious) things with that info.
This could be very interesting, I have a feeling several people have me blocked.

I'm curious why you think this. As I understand this from an earlier post from Gav, unless someone tells the person they've blocked about blocking them, they would not know. Think of it this way, if someone did block you, they had their reasons and it's not something to stress over.

For the record, I have not blocked you nor do I feel the need to do so. The block is to reduce drama and so far it seems to be doing a good job. Gav really out did himself on this and he deserves a reward... like this.

Thanks, NymphWriter, for explaining it further. My suggestion was to (try to!) curb the maliciousness that some are so adept at spreading. As magical-felix pointed out, the troll's remarks would be seen by pretty much everyone else on the site!

Alternatively, perhaps the forums should only be accessible by logged-in members, the same way the chat rooms are. biggrin

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but (discounting the fact that one would log out just to stalk on the other person) there are other ways one would know they have been blocked, right? For instance, they would not be able to view the profile (while being logged in, of course) and they won't be able to PM someone who's blocked them too? I'm not sure about the latter, but I think this is the case.

Honestly, I can't answer this, so I will defer this to Gav or a Mod who might know. As for the troll's remarks... that means the Mods would see it as well and if they felt the need to address it... they shall. If I have blocked said troll and I don't have to see their nonsense... then all the better. It's much easier to ignore someone when you can't really see what they said.

When you block someone a few things happen. They can't PM you but they will find out you blocked them if they attempt to. I found this out because one of the people who have blocked me has a habit of sending me PMs anyway and I tried to respond once but noticed the message wasn't in my sent folder because they have me blocked. Another thing that happens is that you cannot vote on their posted stories if they have any. They will find out if you have them blocked if they go to your story and see they are unable to vote on it (the numbers appear grayed out). The newest thing is that if you have them blocked their forum posts are hidden from you only and they wouldn't realize you have them blocked unless they happen upon the other two ways that I mentioned before.

Just chiming in here ....

firstly, I think it's a bad idea that the forum could only be read by logged-in members. Lots of people never sign up or at least, read from a far, enjoying not being "linked" to a sex site (for whatever reasons).

The chat rooms are a priviledge of being a member. But hey, maybe Nicola would think that "members only forum" is do-able.

Felix above is right about all those ways to figure out if someone has blocked you. There is also the "following" someone. If you "follow" someone, you'll see their AV on your following list. If you go to their profile, you cannnot see yourself in their "who's following _____".

Remember, there are lots of reasons why people block others .... and it's not just because of the drama in the forum. Sometimes it's something as simple as someone being annoying and you don't want to see it or hear from them. Other reasons are low-scoring stories, dick pics, dickheadss, nutjobs, etc.

Hope that helps.

Van
Van - of course, I agree there are other reasons for the block to be used, but given that this thread was about the new feature extending to the forums, figured the posts here should stick to that. smile

Nonetheless, re: the 'following' feature, why is it that we are unable to delete some total random stranger(s) from "following" us? (I've tried, I cant get rid of them!! haha). As you've mentioned, I think the only way right now is to block them if you don't want them 'following' you. (I know this is nothing to do with block new feature/forum, but Van started it!!!) biggrin :D

M-felix - if you block someone, why would you wanna vote on their stories? nvm, this is not related to this thread anyway. :)

N-Writer - I agree and understand, its just quite annoying to still see them deliberately posting after you as its bound to contain even more "shit"....and its highly likely they dont know they've been blocked.

Nonetheless, great job, Gav.

Thanks for replying, All. :)
