This is bad. I have orders to get out, accounts to complete, stock to buy and all I want to do is write.
I finished off four stories last week, two now available to read on Lush. I have four nearly finished, which I have now got to spend hours proof reading (takes longer than writing the damn things). And have god knows how many more going round in my head that want to be given life.
But I have got to make a living. This may be the ruin of me.
Anyone else have a similar problem?

I have a roll the dice philosophy at this point of my life. If you want to write and not work then you have to give up the lifestyle you now have. That could be complicated if you have obligations you can't jettison or get out of. If you have a mortgage sell the house. If you have a big car payment, sell the car and get a beater. Move to whatever is your equivalent of the "Left Bank", drink coffee, find other writers and enjoy the life of a poor and starving artist. If you don't make it you can go back to what you are doing.
Now you don't have to roll the dice, there have been authors and poets that had day jobs, like the poet William Carlos Williams who was a physician at the same time he was major player in the imagist movement along with the poets Ezra Pound and Amy Lowell.

He had the backing of his wife Tabatha and wrote once his obligations for the day were done. Today, he is worth hundreds of millions and sold hundreds of millions of books.

This might be a bit of a childlike way of dealing with your problem, but ever thought of having a writing hour?
I don't write anymore because I have lots of study to do as a student but I have a dedicated 'story moderating' hour, and I stick to that otherwise it just gets out of hand. Same with facebook, sometimes you just need to discipline yourself

Very, very few writers can make a living solely on their writing. They have full time jobs and have to schedule time for writing around their day job. A few can spend more time writing if their partner can afford to support them. In the US, if you are a writer, you need a real world job for insurance. Work out a schedule for when you will write. Stick to it like you would a job working for someone else. You write when it is scheduled and you move on to the next task when it is time to. Jot down ideas any time you can, but use your scheduled time for the creative part of writing. Writers have kids to raise, bils to pay, other responsibilities, as we all do. Set aside your writing time, but don't ignore your other obligations. Get in the habit and it will soon seem quite natural.

I also run into the problem of not having as much time to work on my writing skills as I would like. When I do get time though it really is rewarding and fun. What I'm getting at is, don't burn yourself out and have fun with it when you get to do it.

I completely understand what you are saying. It can be all consuming and almost like a compulsion to a certain extent. Any writing I do now has a special time allocation in the day. I really needed to get some kind of order back in my life. And I usually discipline myself to keep within the limits I have set for myself. Good luck with the writing.

I run my own business, which I have built up over the last twenty years. I have always loved what I do and could never think of a better way to spend my days. But now this new obsession! I have started to get up a 6.00 am, most days, to get some writing done. I find stuff flows at that hour, unhindered by an over active critical faculty. By nine I know i have to start attending to the real world and I have to force myself away from the keyboard.
I know that very few people can make a living from writing and that I never shall. I've Left it too late. Only fifteen more years until I retire! Hope the creative fire powered by sex has not gone by then
