awww sorry ... but plenty of room for Scandinavia ... just under Eire ...

poor Europe changes sooo rapidly ... was waiting to include IS ... nothing to do with refugees.. Independent Scotland ... by the time I change it some other Baltic Republic will have sprung up ... Russia will have gobbled Turkey ... and I think Ukraine might not be there either ..

but it was only for a quick visual indication ... artistic licence?

Too be honest I had never heard about Australia Day (that I can remember) before I read this thread and now it all of a sudden seems to be everywhere on social media.

Anyway, I ran into this article that puts it in another perspective, as Australia Day seems to have somewhat similar issues as Thanksgiving: On this Invasion Day, I am angry. Australia has a long way to go.

not really aware of any issues regarding Thanksgiving ... but the article is correct in fact ... the colonists carried out genocidal policies in some parts of the country ... then adopted, nationwide, a completely misguided and misjudged assimilation policy regarding Aboriginal peoples... which has not been completely unravelled to this day..

the government did apologise and land rights have been recognised in our High Court .. despite the fact there is no Treaty.. or ever will be... and no recognition of indigenous peoples in our Constitution ... or in our laws per se ...

the results of our "White Australia" Policy over many years r still evident ... and we expect everybody to 'fit in' with the majority ... we consider that being a good Australian ..

for those who won't, don't or simply can't ... oh my! ... except concessions are made for Aboriginal people who can't...

Aussie society is very cosmopolitan now... and this is what we celebrate on our National Day ... Australia Day...
colonisation we have left far behind ... and the more cosmopolitan we become.. the quicker colonisation becomes just a series of museum exhibits ... current generations take little or no responsibility for things that happened during colonisation .. the Pommie element says .. Looked up Thanksgiving on Wikipedia and I guess I may have confused it with Columbus Day (regarding criticism)
