RUMPLATIONS: Awesome Honky Tonk and Cyber Bar

A band I have been following that I think would be a good one for the Rumps crowd is Finnish blues-rock outfit Bearwood. If nothing else, the name pays honour to our Beartender. But I think the laidback, cool as ice sound works for here, too.

It's kind of a one-off, for fun project led by guitarist and songwriter Marko Karhu. Somehow, he landed Finnish rock-metal legend Marko Hietala on vocals, which is what originally drew me in (I'm a Hietala fan from his days in the band Nightwish).

Well, after writing about 800 words of my competition entry I’ve decided to scrap it all and start over.

The perspective was all wrong, and while the story itself is solid, the way it was being told wasn’t going to allow it to have the emotional impact it needed. So back to the drawing board it’s a good thing we have till 30 September to get this thing submitted.

Sometimes when writing the best idea is to scrap a project and start over when it doesn't go the way you anticipated.

I have even less than that but it's kind of stalled already. It's about obsession for sure and I even have a high level idea of the story, just not feeling it right now. This comp might end up being a sit out for me but we'll see. I haven't been on top of my game recently, even took a sick day at work for a migraine, something I would usually fight through.

Some of us do. I'm out the door on vacation as of the 25th and will get busy with prep in the week or two before that. So my effective deadline is probably September 11 or thereabouts. If I am not at least into a completed draft by then, it's not happening.

You and me, Seeker4. I have not started yet, and I'm off on vacation this Wednesday, only returning home for a week in between then and September 23rd. I have an idea, and my laptop is going with me. However, as much as I want to take part, I may ultimately sit this one out! 😕

Goodness, writing woes all around. Pull up a lounger fellas, down some tequila, and the words will flow. Plenty of time and you don’t have to use up all 7500 words, you know. I think I’ll end up around 4K.

I have to get in early, too, due to heavy work demands. Boo Hiss

There are some great entries so far. Toreador has a 1.9 word entry that is fantastic, imo.

I agree I’d rather scrap it out now then finish it and not be happy with the product

My local Pride knows how to do it 😜 It's 12th Century. Tallest Norman keep in the UK but it was destroyed by a fire inside. I've been to the top a few times.

Almost done with a very short and sweet one that I like. I just don’t have it in me to do a longer, deeper plot right now. Hopefully some will enjoy my shortie. I’m fine wherever this one lands. :)

I hate how that feels but I knew what you mean there’s sometimes the story just doesn’t do what you wanted to do. I do. Hope you continue to try, but will be glad to read anything you post.

Thank you! This one’s about 1.5 K… more my speed. The piano prominently features and I took lessons forever, so it’s an easier write. :)

I consider mine maybe the appetizer to the main courses like yours. :)

My next project is to look at a comp story, having just finished "Cash in Hand 3", a four-part standalone story in the college sex genre. The first part has been with the moderators for a few days. I can only guess the queue is long at the moment.

I am sure I will, Kimmi... I'm going to make a start tonight and have until Wednesday to get the start and end written. That will just leave the middle to fill out. 😳

Hopefully, your eye strain won't be too bad. When it comes to reading stories. I moved over to having them read to me by the computer. Then, I only look at the screen occasionally. In my case, mainly when I don't understand something. 🙄😊

I think that's true with a lot of authors. The more you write sex scenes, the more it feels like it's just a cut-and-paste exercise, which is very different to real life, of course. 🙄 🤣

Good morning. Cleaning is all done. Weather is decent for once. Not even as hot and muggy as it has been. Good rain overnight so everything is watered, too.

I have been writing but not for the comp. It's an old long form (maybe a novelette or novella) draft that's been hanging fire in my drafts for probably months. Woman with a secret past is shipwrecked on the private island of a "tech bro" billionaire and they end up in a relationship. Then her past shows up. Yeah, it's one of those billionaire romances that are all the rage but it did not actually start that way. Has a really hot three-way in it near the beginning that is part of establishing the billionaire's character but otherwise it is mostly story so I might nerf that down to a R-rating so it can go on SS. Though I do plan to get the protagonist and billionaire into the sack eventually so, yeah. And if it really does land in novella territory, then self-publishing becomes an option and I can keep the smutty bits. Romance readers seem to like those.
