Is it just me or are you getting bored of entering a forum topic and it has been hijacked by people having a private conversation. They are talking about anything and everything and the whole essence of the forum has been lost.

If you want to have a private conversation do it somewhere else.

Ok rant, over tell me what you think.
Yeah, I've noticed this happening too and it really gets on my nerves. But at the same time, I can understand why it happens because going off topic is just the nature of conversation, but it does annoy me that certain members go to certain threads and it happens.
Seriously(rolls eyes) ...forum jacking can't be policed All it requires is someone posting something on the original subject again. Most people don't read pages and pages of a thread so it is likely to be over when the next page is reached. So why don't we complain about something worth complaining about...politics, sex, Christmas songs played in shops in August etc etc
Going shopping today, grocery shopping, and i... *blinks* why is everyone looking at me? *giggles*

ok, sorry, but yeah, here's the thing, sometimes topics get played out after a while, everyone involved has said what they need to say and it's just repeating stuff over and over a bit, then someone pops in, sometimes even months later, sometimes that same day, and banter with someone for a bit - honestly, i find it entertaining, even if i'm not involved, and yeah, it's easy enough to get the conversation back on track if you really really want/need to, or at least in most cases.

that said, it DOES bother me when it turns into a flame war, that's a whole different subject - when there's a public spat between two members going on, that has no place in the threads, but when it's just light hearted playfulness? doesn't bother me a bit - of course, that might be because i'm an occasional offender *blushes*

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

Would it be considered uncouth to hijack this thread lol?

Thanks for making me feel better about my immediate reaction which was to do just that, Lois! *hugs* biggrin

The subject of topics naturally evolve, especially when it grows to be several pages of comments. It is the human element. And sometimes someone may see the opportunity to interject a little humor, which occasionally may be needed.

Like Lois Lane suggested, if you see the need to being the forum subject back on topic, just post again on the original topic and that will most likely push it toward the original intent. Otherwise just enjoy and chill out.

PS. Hey Sprite!!! How YOU Doin? If you are going shopping can I send you my wish list?

Wait I like to Jack.....oh damn I think I misread the original post.

I think it's inevitable when you are dealing with different personalities that subjects run off track. Some like to brag about their education and successes in each thread *cough* and not reference to the original post at all. Some like having conversations with each other as well.

If you look at some of my posts, I try to throw humour in like Buz mentioned. Things willl run off track at times, however you have to consider Lush as a big party. You're not going to talk with everyone in attendance, because they don't appeal to you (mentally or physically). Same with the forums here, you're not going to get the most brilliant posts from each Lush member.

If it bothers you, re post the original question like others have stated, you will be just fine!

As I'm guilty of it from time to time, I do find it entertaining as well. Honestly, how many different times can we have the great shaved/unshaved debate without our eyes glazing over? I love when people interject some humor and go off on a tangent! As long as it's done with humor and not mean spirited/name calling, I think it adds to the fun of the forums.

Did someone say soup? What kinda soup????

Hey, I know a great story about Stone Soup - perfect for Christmas time and how it's good to share!!

Some travellers come to a village, carrying nothing more than an empty cooking pot. Upon their arrival, the villagers are unwilling to share any of their food stores with the hungry travellers. Then the travellers go to the neck of the stream and fill the pot with water, drop a large stone in it, and place it over a fire. One of the villagers becomes curious and asks what they are doing. The travellers answer that they are making "stone soup", which tastes wonderful, although it still needs a little bit of garnish to improve the flavour, which they are missing. The villager does not mind parting with carrots to help them out, so it gets added to the soup. Another villager walks by, inquiring about the pot, and the travellers again mention their stone soup which has not reached its full potential yet. The villager hands them a little bit of seasoning to help them out. More and more villagers walk by, each adding another ingredient. Finally, a delicious and nourishing pot of soup is enjoyed by all.

See, it's actually relevant to the thread as it is now...

However, I do believe we were talking about thread hijacking...

It can be a pain in the arse, but it can usually be turned around to the original subject and I personally find the little detours to be very fun and entertaining...
NO, it doesn't bother me a bit. Like mentioned above .. if it bothers you, just answer the question or topic of the thread and carry on.
If you notice .. the people in this thread that don't mind, also have the ability to see humor, and or just get what's going on or being said.
It's all in fun ... even when it seems "heated".

I have the tendency to stop a thread cold in its track after I post
I don't have that talent off site. HAHA I'm loved off-site.

When the thread gets certain members posting ... notice the audience at the bottom of the page. They are there because they are interested ... intrigued ... wanting to know what's gonna happen next. They won't even post, but they will be there for every last remark.
If someone thinks it's negative .. it's like publicity .. (any publicity is good publicity) for something like this.

Also, when someone says a certain person is "driving members or potential members" away due to the "banter" in threads ...
My goodness, they have to be kidding. That doesn't drive anyone away. One needs to look a bit deeper then that.

If they go away, it's more due to their own inability to chill out or go with the flow. Hey, they also have the option of moving on to another thread. Or, just answering the original topic.

Wake up! Did I put you to sleep?

Hey look I saved you this time... Now I will kill it, instead of your southern fried ass.
Where's my damned soup????
OK.. I know you all are talking about me.. but I can't help it.. I get bored with me quickly and need to change the subject..

LOL, I thought I was the only Destroyer of Threads.
Are you truly awake?
What was the topic again? Oh yea, I agree with those that interject humor into a thread as it keeps others comin back to see the next witty remark, unless the thread is on a serious subject, then it can be just right silly to show your arse. {and I'm pondering Sprites shopping list, could be interesting]
I know that I often follow certain people around the forums purely for their ability to take a dull thread and make it either interesting or just down right funny just by 'hijacking it'.

Relax my pretty, I have plenty of soup for you, five more minutes and the bread will be out of the oven too.
I don't mind it at all. You can still turn the course of the conversation back to original topic, if you want.
I see forum conversations on the same level as having one over beer with people, and it would be extremely silly to settle agenda with friends what we will talk about and nothing else; that we would ignore every possible association and every eureka that sneaks in..

I agree. As long as it stays friendly and not mean. Although we did have one member that called people an asshole all the time. I did giggle over that sometimes. Shouldn't have but I did.
I usually find that the hijacked portion of threads are often more interesting and entertaining than the original question...
Did somebody say soup?

Oh, forgot something.

I agree with DD and doesn't that picture make you want to have a grilled cheese sandwich?

Yes.. well stated..
This site is supposed to be fun. So what if a thread gets 'hijacked?" It's EVOLUTION!

Threads evolve, change.....
