The Spa & The Think Tank: same discussions twice?

Lush has many sub forums that often overlap. Within the General section alone we have The Pub and The Lounge for instance that, to me at least, have a very fuzzy distinction at best. That's fine of course as it doesn't really matter where a thread is located, as long as you can find it when you're looking for it.

With the introduction of The Spa there's something else going on though. The way I understand it The Spa contains the same kind of subjects as The Think Tank, but instead of Adult Swim it's kids friendly and regulated by lifeguards. So the question is, since it's intended for the same subjects, will we be seeing the same discussions twice? And if so, will people copy the same memes, eh posts, in both parallel threads (like with all the Trump memes)? Will threads become less lively if there's a double in the other sub forum? Will The Think Tank become the drama drain for The Spa? Etc.

Personally I'm not very enthusiastic about the introduction of The Spa, but maybe I'm just a pessimist that needs to be proven wrong.
Anyway, what do you think? And remember: keep it nice ;)

Lush rules still allow fierce debate, the big difference will probably be, that discussions will not be allowed to deteriorate into personal flame wars and insult exchanges. I expect that once the people who like serious, adult, on topic debates get used to that, they will eventually stop going to the think tank and start visiting the spa in stead.
A little kindness can be so valuable, yet costs almost nothing

In many countries being gay is a crime, and even in modern societies, politicians try to legalise discrimination. Your voice can make a difference. Have a look at All Out to find out how.

Hey... pssst.... that's an l (as in luscious) at the end of my name, not an i

Hallelujah
I just posted something in the Spa (about being politically moderate) that would have gotten me drawn and quartered in the Think Tank. Let's see what happens.
I think discussing the same topics in both The Spa and The Think Tank is fine, because lots of people want to discuss these issues but just can't handle the intensity of The Think Tank. It's important that the more sensitive among us can express our feelings without worrying about being attacked by the less savoury characters that frequent that particular forum.

We won't see Trump memes in here, because that would be unkind and might upset others. The threads might be on the same topic, but they will be very different in nature.

I'm starting to get the impression that it's the other way around. That the purpose of The Spa is only to show how annoying it is if there's too much moderation (curious how that will be moderated) to all the people who have complained about the lack of moderation in The Think tank. Personally I find the kind of moderation here, where original content is replaced by totally different content, a lot more offensive than most of the trolling/bullying I've seen in The Think Tank. I find it lot more easy to ignore words that are directed at me than words that are put into my mouth.

Hopefully the moderator who will be moderating this post can comment on it.

Well Noll, there is always the think tank to go back to. What do you mean content is replaced with totally different content? Me? I like it here. I can post without anyone telling me I'm stupid or an idiot blah blah blah. It's not that I don't want anyone to disagree with me, I just don't like the personal attacks.

Why would a trump meme be a problem here? Unkind and upset others? I actually don't have a problem with any of the memes that are usually posted in the think tank. Should we not post them at all in the spa?

I think it would be wise not to. They are, by their nature, antagonistic, even if you personally don't have a problem with them. The Spa is supposed to be a supportive environment where everyone's opinions are heard and respected, without being dismissed or ridiculed.

I think it would truly depend on the meme. Some are harsher than others, I agree, and more suited for The Think Tank, but not all the Trump memes are so vile. However, it would truly be a case by case instance.

Sentences get rewritten by mods, thereby putting words in the mouth of the poster that they didn't use.

It's better if they're just avoided altogether. They are provocative and therefore have no place in The Spa. Someone engaging in a civilised, respectful discussion does not require memes to make their point.

It depends on the point they are trying to make and I'm not talking about just memes about Trump, but memes in general.
'Fierce debate' or confrontational posts still belong in the Think Tank. The Spa is a place for 'discussion'. You can still discuss politics and world affairs, but everyone's opinion is to be respected and valued. This means not calling someone out as wrong or poking fun at them because they voted for a certain political party, have religious beliefs, or think differently from you. It's not a place for sarcastic memes, ALL-CAPS posts or political name-calling. This is a place for thoughtful discussion, being supportive of each other, and sharing your opinion without potentially offending people with differing views and life experiences.

Tip: When making posts, re-read it and ask yourself whether someone could reasonably feel attacked or devalued by your statements, and make changes where necessary. Otherwise, forum mods will take care of any slip-ups and issue reminders or warnings if required. Your words won't be changed, but they (or certain sentences/posts) may be deleted if they go against the spirit of the Spa.

If you can't make a point without a meme, maybe The Spa isn't the right place for you. Such an image almost certainly has the potential to be offensive, and the users of The Spa should not have to worry about that.

We didn't close The Think Tank, so there's no reason for the same immature and unkind antics to spill into here.
this thread is getting kind of confrontational and i'm starting to feel uncomfortable... NEED HUGS NOW!

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

My apologies for the part I played in that.

But words have already been changed.

Going forward, this won't be the case.

There is also no reason for you to be so aggressive towards me. I haven't used any such memes nor will I as they are rarely my thing unless I'm trying to be humorous like in the thread about unicorns... one you'll most likely never see in The Think Tank. I have not been immature nor unkind toward you or anyone else in The Spa, nor do I intend to be. I have honored the rules of The Spa and I intend to continue to do such.

Thus, in regards to the OP, you won't always have the same discussion twice. Some topics in The Spa won't be seen in The Think Tank and vice versa.

True, but many of those "discussions" would probably suit The Pub or The Lounge just as fine.

I wasn't aware that you were the governing authority on where discussions should take place, but now that I'm aware that you are, I'm ever so excited for you.

Good for you, Noll!

Well, thanks I guess. I don't see how "would probably suit" is the same as "should" though or likewise how what I stated makes it seem as if I'm claiming to be the governing authority on where discussions should be placed.
Care to clarify?

BTW, I am actually the governing authority on where I think discussions should take place. It's true.

Indeed! And thanks for the invitation to do so.

You're of an opinion that The Spa is unnecessary, correct? Please correct me if I'm wrong, by the way. Still, if my assumption regarding your opinion of The Spa is correct, you're entitled to that opinion, for sure. However, The Spa will continue to exist for as long as people see fit for it to do so.

With that being said, although "would probably suit" isn't the same as "should", the implication is there all the same. Participation in The Spa is purely voluntary, same as any other section of the forums. If you're of a mind that its existence is futile, you're free to express that, but perhaps your commentary would be better suited in threads in sections of the forums with which you don't take issue.

The Spa is meant to be a harmonious place, after all. If its existence is bothersome, there are plenty of other sections within the forums where your opinions may find refuge without speaking against others' enjoyment of a small corner of the internet that was specifically designed for peaceful discussion(s).

It was never my intention to be aggressive towards you - I believe you have misread my tone and I apologise for my part in that.

As per the rules of The Spa, I was only discussing the topic generally and not making any comment on you personally. I never meant to say that you personally were immature or unkind, only that I believed the posting of memes to be so (potentially).
