An improvement to the block feature. Not to the level of Facebook because I already know what the response to that is so please save your hate mail and posts.

Since there are certain members who choose to abuse the current block feature and have boasted about this in other forum threads, perhaps when a member has someone blocked, they can't "Quote" said member (so disabling the quote feature for the person who has a member blocked). So, if Member X has Member Y blocked as they claim, the Quote feature will be disabled for Member X only when they see Member Y's post. Member Y will not be affected in any way.

Also, if there is a way to have the blocked message carry over so when you make a post, and the person you blocked has posted within the last 10 posts, they can't see what was said. Instead, they would see this:

This post has been hidden as you have blocked this member.

(I copied this from Gav's initial post about the improved block feature.)

Now, I understand that if you block someone, then unblock them for whatever reason, you can't reblock them for 24 hours. This I very much agree with because otherwise it becomes a I talk shit to you, but you can't reply so I get the last word in.

I know some will have some nasty shit to say about this, but in all God honesty, I mean this sincerely as a way to reduce the drama and bullshit so again, save the hate mail and posts. I don't care if you don't agree or don't like this. It's just a suggestion as that is what this exact thread is all about.

Never Say Never Again was Non-Eon, but it kicked the ass of the Eon Bond films of that 80s era. Sean Connery and that Georgia girl, Kim Basinger.

Never Say Never Again is by far my all-time favorite Bond film and Sean Connery is my #1 Bond. Roger Moore was the Bond I grew up with so he's my #2. Pierce Brosnan is my #3.

People can complain til the cows come home for all I care. Unless it's an actual reportable offence, they will most likely get directed here, explaining to them how we expect adults to manage their experience here.

If they choose not to, that's on them.

It seems that it's the Mods who are doing the bulk of the complaining. I mean, what else would this thread be for? You know which members can't behave like adults. I get some love the entertainment value of the bickering and fighting, but if you're going to post a thread like this, you can't act surprised when those who do the lion's share of reporting don't read or care about this.

This has been discussed before. If you block someone and are no longer seeing their posts, you are altering your own experience on Lush by restricting what you can and can't see. If this block extended to restricting what the blocked person sees as well, you're affecting someone else's Lush experience without their consent.

The block feature is what it is, and can be used or not as people see fit.

I knew this would be the response.

My purpose was to bring to your attention the flaws in the block that continue to cause problems that prompted a thread like this. If keeping other person who is blocked from seeing the posts of the person who blocked them is too much to ask for (which clearly it is) then maybe fixing it so that the get-arounds I mention can be addressed.

Believe it or not, my purpose in posting what I did was to help reduce the bullshit and drama. I don't care if any of you believe me or not.

I literally don't even know what point you're trying to make now. The purpose of this thread was to advise what to do if someone was annoying you, because we've received a number of contact-us queries about it.

What I'm saying is ignore them, block them or change your settings so you don't get PM's from randoms. It's fairly simple.

I understand the purpose of this thread, but you are missing the sheer fact that there are certain members (and if you want I'll PM their screen names to you) who not only ignore this, but have bragged on forum threads that they work around the blocks.

I also read every response here and the person who said the forum threads wouldn't make sense is whining because then they wouldn't see what those who have them blocked are saying. If the block was extended, then only those blocked and those doing the blocking would be affected.

Thus, if a member has no one blocked, then they won't be affected. If a member has someone blocked, then that person wouldn't see the posts from the person they have blocked and the person they blocked won't see what they post either (unless someone quotes them.) You do understand the bulk of the issues stem from the forums.

You posted this thread because you had stated the Mods were getting complaints. In fact, you said...

We've received a few messages lately about person X annoying person Y, or ABC ganging up on D to say mean things or bully them.

Wouldn't strengthening the block save you Mods from getting these complaints? The request for members to act like adults has clearly fallen on deaf ears. Perhaps now it's time to do something different.

I really don't think anything else needs to change other than people growing up a bit. If the block doesn't work then refer to my 'ignore' comment.

If people are actually quoting, scrolling down to read someone they have blocked (whether intentional or not) and choosing not to ignore, then refer to my 'growing up' comment.

End of.

Except that people aren't "growing up a bit." People aren't ignoring what is being posted and/or they're over riding the blocks. I mean, isn't that the purpose of this thread? What I brought up were legitimate issues that certain members have been abusing for a long time and I'm sure the Mods are growing tired of said issues. I realize what I said wasn't very popular and certain members don't agree... well... that's fine. But when you start a thread like this addressing the issues that have been plaguing this site for a long time, it's seems redundant.

BTW... the block I suggested will only impact the person who is blocked and the blocker in question. If say, Member Q has no one blocked, then they won't be affected and the forums will look normal. I'm guessing those who are blocked are the ones most concerned. They seem to thrive on shit-stirring.
Here's the real problem... those who "claim" they have blocked someone are still quoting them. It's no secret that if you respond to a forum post and the person you've blocked is within the last 10 posts you can see what they have said. Plus, if Person X who has Person Y blocked quotes them, it honestly defeats the purpose of the block. I can site real examples, but I'm sure the Mods are well aware of this.

When the block extended to forum posts, several of us made a handful of requests, some that were enacted.

1) If you have someone blocked and said person quotes you on the forum, their quotes don't appear on your timeline. This Gav did quickly address and it solved a shit-load of problems. Thank you again for this Gav.

2) Make the block a bit stronger so the person you block can't see or respond to you either similar to the way Facebook has done it. I have been politely told this isn't feasible or won't happen. Well, that was 2-3 years ago and to be honest, we're seen too many people work around the current blocking system and clog up the forums with a shit-load of nonsense.

#2 has been suggested before, but perhaps it should be looked at again. Then it would answer the question once and for all if Person X really has blocked Person Y or not. I know non-Mods can't block Mods and for the most part that's fine. To be honest, there aren't any that I'd currently want to block at this point... though Sprite does often push her luck.

Either way... it would be nice to see the block function used and used properly.
Went to the gym... on a Sunday. It's true... there is a first time for everything.
There are three Harry Potter themed podcasts I really enjoy: MuggleCast, Alohoamora (Open the Dumbledor), and Speak Beasty (for the Fantastic Beasts movies.)

For the non-HP fan, Stuff You Missed in History Class is wonderful, funny, and touches on a wide variety of topics from all over the world.

The New Teacher Podcast is great for teachers both new and veterans. I enjoy listening to their interviews.

I listen to all of these though iTunes.

Good work Nymph!

And a good reminder that I need to take care of a bunch of car stuff soon too.

Happy to help.
A seven season series of the seven Harry Potter novels.

Each season is one book. Each episode is one chapter.

Okay... it might take more than seven season as the later books have a lot more chapters.

I'd totally watch it.
Got my assignment for next school year and once the initial shock wore off... I was actually excited.
Finally got an uninterrupted night of necessary sleep and even slept in.

I had high hopes for Siren. I stopped watching after four episodes. It plays like a PG rated network TV show. Horrible dialogue writing and bad acting.

Let me know what you think about it.

It's rare when you and I find something to agree on, but Siren is one we do agree upon. I'm still holding out hope, thought it has been sitting unwatched on my DVR and I have on real desire to watch what's left.

I'm rather sad that two shows I truly enjoy are being canceled: Lucifer and Designated Survivor.

I'm still a Grey's Anatomy fan, though I'm starting to wain. I mean... how much more can they do with that show? They tend to kill off favorite characters, but there are only a few original cast members left. I think it's time to close the book on that show and move on.

I still have a love for some reality shows. Project Runway, Hell's Kitchen, Master Chef, Bring It! are just a few of my top favs. My husband has gotten me into Forged in Fire and I must admit... it's actually rather interesting.

While it's got great ratings, I will not be watching Roseanne anytime soon. Everything I hear is like a check-list for every demographic and really... it seem they are trying to please everyone.

I am hoping that Leah Remeni's show about Scientology and the aftermath will return. I found that interesting and rather terrifying.

So you’re saying the selected panel members don’t actually read all the entries?

No. I think they are selected because they will read anything and everything. Their names are kept a secret so they aren't pestered or influenced by outside forces. Honestly, I'm not sure I'd ever want to be on that panel as from what I've heard, it can be quite a challenge to decide which one is the winner. These fine folks have a difficult enough of a job.

I think the votes are low on the overall consideration. They are just the qualification factor to help the panel weed out some of the stories. The actual number of stories or poems that don't earn the 10 is pretty low.

EDIT: I just saw Nicola's post above and it pretty much confirms what I just said. I'm always honored when a piece I've written makes the Top 10 and I won't lie... I'd love it if it made the Top 3, but it's a goal I haven't given up on.

How can voting be factored into the competition results if everyone who voted hasn’t voted on every story? I suspect few if any voters have read every story that’s submitted. If thats the case using their votes to judge in any way to help pick a winner, is like picking the winning brisket at a BBQ completion by only tasting 6 of the 80 entries.

I get what you are saying, but some of us have categories that are just a no-go when it comes to reading. I myself won't read and actually have blocked the category (not like it's a big secret.) Others have categories they won't read and they have their reasons. Thus, if you have a comp that stories that are more likely to not be read by some members, then this can't feasible. Asking that each story have a minimum of 10 votes is more than enough. Some authors will always exceed this number and other authors will barley make the cut. Competitions bring out the best in many of our authors.
You fucking whiny, self-centered, little bitch! How dare you attempt to bully a rookie teacher becasue you can't fucking get your shit together and then go crying to the principal when you don't get your way! Honestly, I have lost all respect for you. I hope you switch grade levels next year and leave me the fuck alone. I have finally found my groove and you are trying to take that away from me. You do so much fucking back biting and trash talking it's not even funny! Don't bitch about someone coming in late when you yourself are notorious for that exact thing. Don't act like everyone must bow down to you and bend their schedules because you can't fucking plan better. And don't hate me because I fucking plan ahead and get the fucking job done.

Either step up or step out... I know you have talked about leaving... then why don't you? Then my students won't have to suffer because you're not as good as you think you are and we can get someone who is willing to work with us instead of just dictating her demands.
Not sure what bugs me more... the fucking back-biting within my department or the worthless parents who believe their child's bullshit?

Dear Parent... Your precious child lied! He knew he was in trouble so he lied because he knew you'd believe him. Yet, you don't question the fact that he's failing four of his classes. Funny how I know that and you don't. Maybe you should fucking PARENT your child as you are... his parent.

Dear Department... Can we stop the back-biting please? It's only bringing us all down and killing morale. We're losing good teachers becasue of this. We need to support each other or we won't survive.
A $5,000 bonus for teachers to transfer from a non-Title 1 school into a Title 1 school?! Are you fucking kidding me? What about those of us who have spent our entire career in a Title 1 school? How about a fucking loyalty bonus?! Do you mother-fuckers know how hard it is to teach at a Title 1 school? The struggles we see on a daily basis are very real and very heartbreaking. The successes are few, but worth it. But let's be real... I could use a $5,000 bonus... especially since you fuckers won't give me my cost of living raise.
