Sorry Rump but I was booted from updating the list. Everyone seems to enjoy Hannah's better. So she will have to do any updating needed.

But I will enjoy that coffee while I am waiting for the new list to come out.

Hey all.

I don't know that you were booted from doing anything, Jim, and I'm sure everyone appreciates your efforts at putting together those first few lists. But please gracefully recognise the return of the OTF (One True Flick) (aka bröwncoffee) who has had this responsibility for some time.

One last cupppa joe, and then I've got to swear off. A seriously caffeinated morning.
Finished reading the comp entries, what a varied comp and a strong field. Weekender's and Undecided's hadn't hit the front page yet, so I'm calling it a night.

Took my latest story through a draft. Almost ready.

Long day. Excellent weekend. I am fond of this marraige thing. smile

A bourbon please.

Yãåāàáâäÿÿÿ!!! The One True Flick is back!

I have had a marvelous weekend with my dear LJ, and have not have time to read entries. But I will finish them all with a mad flourish tonight!

Cool contest. So nice to see all the excitement and energy. I was briefly cranky about it, but Ping talked me down.

Köffêè please!
The world is blood-hot and personal. - Sylvia Plath
OMFG I just found out Mr. Mercedes has a season two! First season was great. These are based on the Stephen King trilogy (though they skipped the second book) (good decision too). Dennis Lehane, who wrote Mystic River and Gone Baby Gone and a bunch of other great crime books, is writing a lot of the scripts.

Two episodes in. Deeply creepy.
Good morning, all.

Really varied comp field, and a real spirit of fun in the entries. And I love how every time someone new enters you can go read it and be done in under a minute. This is much less stressful than actual comps. Thanks for being Tracy Flick, Jim.

3 day weekend in the US! Yay! God knows I need the break.

Köffee please. The thick sludgy bit, if there is any left.
LBD! Oh, how I love little black dresses!

This is out of my element but here it goes. I am guilty of that, I read, I vote and not comment. If a writer has requested a comment, to enable me to vote, then I will not vote, full stop. Please don't come at me for my post here. I'm shy as it is and this post scares the besheesh out of me. Sorry Jim, but I will not comment if I do not want to. Personally, if I do not comment, it means I have nothing to add to the story. Writer and story were on point and had captured my attention, taken me on a journey and entertain me with their words. Hopefully my vote will reflect that. Also, I may be a little shit in the forums, I am shy. My comment is nothing and insignificant compared to those worthy than me ? ..just saying.

The strongest shot you have Rump ..make that a double please. Thank you Rump ..sorry about the post ? it's ok, I'll let myself out.

Y'all have a pleasant day/evening ..take care ?

Yeah, I can get grumpy about comments too, though less so these days, because I just kind of accept it. I know my readership and appreciate their attention.

More to the point, You are absolutely right, E. Writers are already asking a favor of the reader, to read their story. If they read it, their job is done. If they want to comment, if they want to vote, awesome, but that's gravy, and certainly not an obligation.

Writers should never blame readers for their reactions, whether it's a low score, or no comments, or misunderstanding a story. We should be happy and grateful for someone reading our words at all.

In other news, I finished a comp entry! With 2 words to spare! Can't post til tomorrow, since I already posted today (though that one's so frikkin dark I may delete it).
I often use the two words to describe the same woman in different contexts. I don't actually think it through, but I use girl when being presented by fun, flirty, light, and, well, girly aspects of her. I use woman when I am reminded of her more substantial qualities: intellect, emotion, sexuality.
Good morning all. The comp entries rock. Fun contest.

I submitted my non-comp entry this morning. It's not hot or sizzling (though it is sex), so doesn't exactly meet comp criteria. Dark as fuck, but hey, I just write em. Anyway, it'll hit the front page sometime soon, I assume.

Köffee please.

What's this rumor I'm hearing about an unofficial comp? Sounds like fun!

Come play! It's fun!

A shot of burrbin before bed to help me sleep, please.

It's much more lighthearted and fun than an official comp. And the short length means I can actually keep up with the entries. Not dissing official comps, they can be fun, too. But this one feels more like a game among friends and sometimes I need that more than a shot at a big prize.

A glass of vino, please. I think there's some faux Italian plonk under the counter that's passable.

Yeah, the stakes are much lower and the vibe is chill and fun.

Three fingers of Safeway Select's finest booze please.

EDIT: So I wrote a 115 word entry, but it wasn't exactly sizzling sex (like, at all), so I figured I wouldn't enter it. But I did submit it. If I enter it will be with something else.

Hey, can we like standardize the tag used? I've seen about three different ones. Just "Rump's Comp" should be enough, shouldn't it (though I did like "sprite's fault" )? Right now, to find them, I have to watch the Recents for stories under 115 words with some variation of that tag. If we all use the same tag, you can read one, then click the tag to find others. Just a thought to make it easier for us who are following this.

We need someone with Tracy Flick-like tendancies to track all the entires. Anyone willing to start a list?
So there's a 15 word window? Between 100-115 words?

I'm a maybe. Hope everyone is well. Looking forward to reading the entires.

Köffee please.

Hey Rump!!!

Is this what you had in mind when you conjured up this toaster-naming contest? Here's something I whipped up in the shower this morning.

Dripping Electric

No faces. No names.

Only feet. Clustered in pairs.

Some closer. Some farther away. Dozens surrounded her – impatiently shuffling while waiting for their turn.

It was Wednesday. Hump Day at Rump’s. She’d almost not accepted his invitation.

The seat’s well-worn and cracked vinyl felt dangerous against her belly’s piercing. The thin, metal legs were cold against her colorfully-inked skin, where both wrists and ankles were bound with duct tape.

She’d volunteered, and the orgiastic crowd enthusiastically stripped and bent her over the bar stool.

The music was low. The lights dim.

The first stranger’s touch was cunt-dripping electric.

Ping, you magnificent bastard! That rocked. Now save your stuff for the comp.

I have no ideas yet, but I kinda like the idea of it happening in Rumps. I might set mine at a bar too. That would make a cool unofficial theme.

Thanks for setting up the comp, Kitty Ears.

Bruising day. 3 very generous hot-dog fingers of rotgut.

actually, winner gets the new toaster named after them. smile

Does it have to get our name, or do we get to name whatever we want it if we win? Can we name your toaster, say, the "Bread Cremator 9000"?

Hannah, I've always found flash is an excellent way to get your writing mojo back. Considering you just placed 2nd in a contest, I doubt your mojo is very far away.

Köffee, please.

Watched all of disenchantment in 3 days. It's short so that's not too crazy. Recommended for sure.

American Vandal season 2 is coming soon... Definitely watch the first one. So damn funny.

I haven't watched s2 of American Vandals yet, but I agree s1 was funny as fuck.

Back to watching The Expanse, now that Prime has let us mortals watch s2 and 3.

ok, comps on - i'll post rules tomorrow and instructions tomorrow - deadline, theme, if there is one (Bill and i are PMing about particulars), etc. i'll grab some of my story mods as judges, long as they're not ones who want to enter, and we'll just do it - i suggested there be some sort of bragging rights prize, like having the new toaster named after the winner or something - suggestions always welcome. smile

So cool!

The prize should be free drinks for life at this place.

The downside to finishing a story is going back and rereading it and realizing how much shit you have to fix.

Sigh. A beer please.

Furball (sorry, Jeff. I think you're stuck with it!) has led a rich, full life (from the tidbits I've read). I'd actually love to read his biography! Anyone who's been in jail twice has some interesting stories to tell!

I've been in jail THREE times! And I have no problem with the Furball moniker (which is good because it clearly has some legs).

Beff is one of my oldest friends here. I love that she throws anonymity out the window here, and is proud of who she is and feels no need to hide it. Plus, a really good writer. She gave me much needed encouragement in my first year or two here.
She is sweet and sensitive and caring and selfless.

I'm wondering if what this joint needs is a mini-fiction contest of our own. Ya know, 100 words or less, dedicated to the hottest sex we can crank out with that word limit. If it works (doubtful) they might all be combined and submitted to Lush as some sort of special category collection. Just a thought.

This sounds awesome! I'd enter.

Did not sleep well tonight. Cranky this morning.

VERY LARGE köffee please.

Cheers Buz! I think a Jack over ice would be perfect about now. Winding down after a very busy day of chores and work emails.

That new throne looks pretty spiffy, can I try it out?

What's wrong with my pool noodle throne? sad

Just typed "The End." I'll take a celebratory shot. One for Lyf and Buz too, and anyone else hanging out in the corners of the bar. Excpet Terrence. Booze and tarantulas do not mix.
I hope everyone's Sunday is treating them well. Mine started badly, but then turned around unexpectedly. Tiny miricles are what make life worth living.

This is from David Foster Wallace's brilliant reporting about McCain on the campaign trail in 2000. "Something about McCain made a lot of us feel the guy wanted something different from us, something more than votes or money, something old and maybe corny but with a weird achy pull to it like a whiff of a childhood smell or a name on the tip of your tongue, something that would make us think about what terms like “service” and “sacrifice” and “honor” might really refer to, like whether they actually stood for something, maybe."

Rest peacefully, John.

Lol I saw it in my timeline! Yeah I need some post-publishing highs. I feel kinda boring. Washed up. I don't even have throne privileges anymore. Life sux.

I like bill's idea of second person but it makes me feel pretentious. I have lots of ideas but no writing prowess.

Tea, please.

You can have my throne. It is admittedly made of pool noodles, but hey, any port in a storm, right?

I tell you now, without even attempting to do it, that I couldn't pull off a 2nd person story. I can't even fully get my head around what all the rules would be. It would mess with my POV too much.

Burrbin please. 3 fingers. Heh.
