New Shard up.

After the agita of writing This is Not a Game, I needed to write something light and fast and funny. This is the result. Hope I succeeded.

Shard 74.3: Wow
https://www.lushstories.com/stories/flash-erotica/shard-743-wow.aspx

There is another Shard in the works, in a similar vein, light and fast, but more romantic than funny. Note that the current Shard has a .3 at the end of the number, as will the next few. It's a way to let the reader know something has changed in the relationship, and this is the latest iteration (yeah, I know no one cares about the numbering system but me). It adds a little linearity to a series that is meant to be read randomly.

There are also two more full stories in the works, not in a trilogy along with This is Not a Game in the traditional sense, but working with the same themes, and hopefully giving some closure to the Damned Thing.

When I first ventured into the chatrooms here, I was inundated and overwhelmed. I couldn't keep up with all the whispers and multiple convos. I gave up and didn't go back.

Me too, exactly. And I went in one like a week ago out of curiosity and had the exact same reaction.
Thanks for getting BB up and churning up coffee-like substances, Tonya. Your room sounds lovely, though it sounds like you have a busy few days ahead of you.

You want us to spill the beans on our lives, Bill? In RL, Layla will be moving here for good in exactly 2 months. Logistics concerning jobs and houses and health insurance have all nearly been ironed out. In LL, I am doing directly from this thread to the Submit button, to post another Shard.

Any extra cinnamon rolls there, Fuzzy? Is there such thing as an "extra" cinnamon roll?

Köffee please!

EDIT: The new Shard is up (heh).

That made me LOL.

I love toys, but Fleshlights score pretty high up there on the goofiness factor.

Glad someone's got their mojo back. I have ideas. That's not my block. My block is that when I start writing, my self-critic goes into overdrive and I hate what I write. It could be perfectly decent but I can't stand to look at it long enough to finish, let alone edit and proof.

I forget what's in an Herbal Furball but, hey, you only live once. Send one down, Rump.

My self-critic has an inordinately high opinion of itself. smile

While I agree you shouldn't put something out there until you are confident in it, sometimes you just gotta say fuck it, and write the damn thing and throw it out there. Particularly when you are in a writing slump. Just sayin. You can always delete it later. Or re-edit it.

A regular Furball is bourbon (preferably Old Crow) and bitters. In an Herbal Furball, you first muddle a "medicinal" gummi bear edible into the bourbon, then add the bitters.

I'll take a regular one, whoever is passed out behind the bar.

PARTY AT SCOOTER'S HOUSE! i'll bring the edibles and the hot chicks! rest of you are in charge of booze and snacks!

Party over yet? I can throw a gallon jug of Furballs and a box of cocktail umbrellas into the hatch of the minivan and be right over.

Wrote a Shard, first word to last word, on Saturday. And the first couple of sentences of another one today. I'm sticking a fork in this writer's block - it's done! And I'm feeling rather celebratory. An Herbal Furball please!

Oh, I liked this most recent non-shard!

They explore exhibitionism, but unlike most erotica, everything and anything isn't a turn-on.

Well, not enough of the story was a turn-on in the first draft. I turned back to the more personal and emotional aspects of the story on the third go-round.

Exhibitionism can be a complex and tricky thing. I'm trying to get to all aspects of it, not just the sexy bits. smile

Then who's gonna take out the trash and kill spiders for us?

I refuse to kill spiders. Well, okay, I kill Black Widows, which are common here (shhh, don't tell Layla).

I do take out the trash.

Good Friday evening friends. Jim you could have my issues I'm sleeping in the middle of my living room as the carpeting is getting replaced in my bedroom. I believe I'll have a double shot of NyQuil and a Jen's Jolter to go to sleep.
G good to see you. I promise to get to your stories as soon as I can. Hope you are well.
Hi Sara happy weekend. Bill hope you are doing well.
Jeff the Mets won. Woohoo. Put your drink on my tab to celebrate. Fuzzy congrats on being so prolific on Sacre blue. Enjoy the weekend everyone. It's gonna be a wet one here.

I'll take you up on that drink, Tonya. I haven't watched the Mets much lately, but I watched tonight.

How about a Fuzzy Jameson? They're easy to make. Just pour some of Fuzzy's Jameson's into a jelly glass and slide it down here.

Hey, Larry. A reunion sounds like fun. My college reunion 5 or so years ago was a BLAST!

Hey, Jim. Hey Sara (don't kick me!). Hey Ping (YMB!). If CurvyG comes in buy her a shot on me.

You can have both story build-up and sex right away. I do this a lot, because I like a long, slow burn but I know that it can be irritating to a reader.

Just show sex that isn't happening between your two protagonists. I think I used this in Ty's Girl and Night Music.

Nice trick! I may try that sometime!
Agree.

Some statues of Confederate soldiers should be allowed to stand, as they are part of our history, however odious. You can add an educational sign to put it in context if you like.

I watch a lot of movies, but horror isn't one of my favorite genres.

I think the problem is that there are so many really bad ones out there.

I loved It but when it comes to evoking that creepy feeling that some of us crave, The Ring tops my list.

I remember renting it on VHS. Before any credits or anything, the movie just shows the creepy video that is featured in the film. It was such a bold and creative choice.

In general I enjoy more psychological themes rather than basic gore.

The Ring is the scariest movie I've ever seen. I talked through half of it because I was so scared at the time, which annoyed my wife at the time, but what are you gonna do.

I also like the idea of an ancient evil bubbling up through modern technology (for the time anyway: VHS, television, fax, telephones).
Morning all.

Bill, nice George Will quote you threw out on the Forums.

Slow day today, which is not a bad thing. I got a new office chair yesterday, and it is SO comfy. A little too big for my desk, but man, I could sleep in this thing.

Mets didn't lose yesterday! Of course, they didn't play either.

Köffee please.

Missed that one on mine, but it's probably my favorite modern vampire film (as opposed to period vampire films like Dracula adaptations). Kathryn Bigelow's first film, IIRC (or at least very early in her career) and a terrific cast.

Yep - Near Dark is my favorite vampire movie ever. Her name stuck in my head cuz it was so good. And 20 year later she wins the Academy award for Hurt Locker!

I see I posted twice on this page, like a year and a half apart. With almost the same list. I must REALLY love horror movies. Left off Susperia and From Dusk til Dawn from the first list.

Before Fuzzy and the Caps fans drink this joint dry, I've gotten Big Bertha (who knew she was a caps fan?) up and brewing.

Not meaning to dampen the joy here in Lushville, but y'all spare a bit of sympathy for, Jeff. Not only did his Mets lose, again, to the woeful, last in the National League, CincinattiReds, they did it by batting out of order. That's the sort of mistake you kinda expect from poorly coached Little League teams, not from MLB outfits. And just to add insult to injury, the Mets cross-town rivals, the Yankees, won for the 17th time in the last 18 games, and did it against the very good Boston Red Sox.

Hang in their, Jefff. If the Caps can actually win a playoff series, there's hope the Mets' fortunes will improve, sooner or later.

Now whadda y'all wanna drink?

Yeah, that line-up mistake was crazy stupid. All I watched was the 9th inning, and I only tuned in because it was tied. And saw the home run and the game was over. AND Matt Harvey, the Dark Knight himself, is no longer a Met.

Serious congrats on the Caps, Gill. Yay! Maybe I'll become a fan so I can see someone win.

Sigh. Köffee please.

Today is shaping up to suck major donkey balls !

This friend of yours, is he in the army? Major Don K Balls?

Sorry for the bad joke. Mets lost again. 1st place to 4th place in like a week. Yikes.

Hey, Simmie! Good to see you back!

Burrbin please.
Hey all. Thanks for setting up BB, CurvyGee. And for the help with the story too.

Ugh. Monthly staff meeting today. I hate these things. Guess I have to shave today. sad

Thanks for the props on the story, Bill, Curvy, Pixie. This one may have been worth the work.

And thanks for the sympathy for the Mets Bill. Thankfully, I took a little break after their 6 game losing streak and so missed the game.

Köffee please.
I just put up a full, non-flash, Shards-related story. It's called This is Not a Game (https://www.lushstories.com/stories/exhibitionism/this-is-not-a-game.aspx). It was not easy to write, and I hope the seams don't show from pulling it apart and putting it back together.

I plan on writing two more stories in the same vein, not an official trilogy, but three stories sharing similar themes and events. They also put a bow on the whole Shards project, because while they have (mostly) been a joy to write, I am tired of writing them, and all this flash fiction is turning me into a lazy writer.

It combines a couple of threads running through the Shards in this story. It finishes up the sex video storyline, developed in these three stories.
*Viewfinder (RR)
*Thumbnail (RR)
*Doppelgängers (RR)

It also bring back their game of role-playing in a bar, referred to in these three stories.
*Candide (RR)
*Dirty Martini
*Dicks (RR)

You don't have to read any of these flash stories to get the gist what is going on in the new story. I just use this thread to tie everything together, for anybody out there who is interested in how these all fit together.

Is there anybody out there?
This looks awesome. I love arctic adventure stories. How have I never heard of it? I will jump on this.

We just finished a slow one-or-two-a-night binge watch of Bates motel. It's a little uneven, but Vera Farmiga steals every scene she's in. Love her. And the last season is disturbing and trippy and well worth the wait.

Most of what I watch is HBO, like the rest of the world. Silicon Valley, Westworld, GoT (CAN'T WAIT!), John Oliver. Bill Maher, though he can be kind of a dick.

I watch a lot of baseball too. smile

The Terror is Great.

Best TV of the year so far. You really have to pay attention and watch the whole scene. It's great. I t actually ignited my interest in the Franklin expedition. It could have a been a great miniseries even with without the supernatural aspects.

I am not quite sure, Jeff. Are you creating a story for the competition, or just a story that you want tell right now?

Just a regular story. It's submitted, and should be up in a few hours. I almost never enter comps: twice in four years, if you don't count the time I was Flick'ed into the poetry comp.

A big shout out to CurvyGalore, who gave me notes on the first failed attempt of the story, and helped me edit my way out of that glorious mess.

I have been lax about reading the comp entries, overly focused on my own story and on, um, life itself. With the new story submitted I will try to sample a few.

Yesterday was an exceedingly long day. Let's hope for a less demanding day today.

Thanks for brewing up the köffee, Scott. I'll take a gallon bucket of it.

@furball and Larry: check out Emanuele Taglietti's art. i think you'll appreciate it.

Cool! I like the way he adds a noir vibe to the sex and to the horror. Quite a mash-up of genres.

Hey, Buz, glad you're having a good evening, and glad your Bavos are doing so well, even at the expense of my team. Hey Jim, hey Sara (don't kick me!).

I am so tired of messing with this fucking story. Hannah, you just went through this, you understand. Your story was worth the effort.

Burrbin please. And a quarter in the jukebox.

Nothing on her profile for non-friends, but her avatar is pretty hot.

Seems like a decent enough guy. Maybe a little kinky.

Maybe a little. smile

Above: she wears her sexuality honestly, proudly, and without reservation.
Thanks for getting the köffee brewing, CurvyGee! I'll take a quart. Just fill up this motor oil can.

Hey, Jim, Tonya, weekender.

Story is almost stitched back together. Still don't know if it's any good. But it's better. There is NO correlation--and I think Hannah pointed this out about her last story--between how hard you work on a story and how good it ends up being. You can tear your heart out, rewrite and rewrite and rewrite, and sometimes you pull it off, you get it all to work like a well oiled machine. Sometimes the work shows, the seams in it show, and it's just a misshapen mess.

I will reread it this afternoon. It will, I'm guessing, need more work.

Have an adequate Monday everyone (I don't dare wish for anything more than adequate on a Monday).
Wow. Just watched that whole thing. Powerful. A couple very disturbing moments.

I am listening to my Dad's improbably loud television from the other side of the wall.

this is america...don't catch you slipping up

i've been a fan of donald glover it seems like forever. never really connected with his rap persona (childish gambino) but i've enjoyed a song here and there. THIS is one of those times. the song utilizes afro beats and a choir-esque hook, very easy to groove to - especially if you're not listening to the lyrics.

the video on the other hand is a completely different animal. i can't do an analysis justice, so i've added a link to a thought provoking article by refinery29. if you choose to watch the video - please be warned that it is graphic.

enjoy.
