I would have wished that one or the other of our authors would have taken a look at the text before hastily submitting their story to the Noir Erotique competition... 😉

I pray you don't stumble upon my attempt at a neo-noir entry then. Not sure my fragile ego could cope with your expert analysis of my failings as an amateur author.

In complere contrast to the Microfiction stories mentioned above, I've penned a behemoth story for the Noir competition. Yes, the word count seems daunting. But I promise it'll be over quickly: I hope it draws you into the story and keeps your attention till the last moment.

Choices: Between A Cock And A Hard Place

And if you haven't entered yet, there's still a few weeks left to the deadline so set your pens to Dark Mode and get writing.

If a story is returned to you, there's currently no way to access the unpublished stories, besides going into the message from the moderator and clicking the "recent story" link. This'll be fixed in an update this week on our profile pages.

I wondered why Susie posted the same thing I did under my post in the badge thread. That explains it if my content was empty. Curious.

So that explains why almost all of the 'new' stories on the home page at the moment are saying zero likes and zero views

I wouldn't say it explains it, per se. It was more a general comment backing up what you said. But as there are a few hundred thousand things bring migrated in the background, there may be other things that fall by the wayside during the process, such as like and view counts. Or maybe there's something amiss that will crop up tomorrow and need fixing.

Give it a day to catch up with itself and revisit the pages then to see if anything's changed.

although I got a notification of a 'like' it still says zero likes.

Sometimes I've noticed a delay between something appearing in one area (e.g. the forum, or a story comment) and the notification. Or vice versa. Guess not everything is real-time and it sends info between various site areas, which can take a variable amount of time based on how many other things the server is doing (like processing images, etc).

Developers say there's a backlog of jobs at the moment, and it should update correctly when that clears.

(There are a few hundred thousand to go)

Writing from the female perspective is something I enjoy. Like Ensorceled, I probably do it about half the time. Maybe a little less.

It took a while to get there (by reading a lot) and I'm still working on it. Sometimes I write an opposite gender piece and it clicks. Other times it doesn't quite meet the high expectations I have of myself. Usually, just when I think I've got it nailed, I'll read a piece by someone else on this site that makes mine seem like a grade school story, haha. So I'll use that to attempt to up my game.

As maverick80 says, don't bully yourself into thinking you can't do it. You can. I've read your work, joe71, and you sure as hell can write!

Do we need to save a copy/backup from our Profile before the update

I wouldn't envisage so. Your bio, badges, comp placings, media etc will be unchanged. It'll just look a bit different in the layout.

The main differences are the Wall posts and the customisation options to show your top 3 stories and to turn on/off/reorder various blocks. Plus the story filter as Jen mentioned.

I've had a few dabbles into Microfiction recently. I find it very challenging to try and tell a story that is way bigger than a hundred words in such a tiny limit, because I'm usually Wordy McWordsmith.

If tiny prose is your tipple, or even if it's not, then please take a gander at Under Kenyan Skies and Eat Prey, Love. Only 100 words each. Over in a few blinks, I promise. Would love to hear your thoughts on either.

A well-deserved EP. A breezy, light narrative voice, and some genuinely funny as fuck one-liners to complement the endless stream of inventive similes. Fabulous stuff.

Yeah, looks like the search is borked. I refuse to believe that I've only used the word fuck in one story.

It seems to randomly be ignoring one or more search parameters, and sometimes matching against content, or tag, or neither.

You can explicitly search for tags by changing the URL from keywords= to tag= (I swear there was a tag search option in the UI somewhere) but that still doesn't help much when you add the author name in the mix.

I'll report this and let you know what the developers say. Thanks for spotting it.

I try not to read other entries before publishing mine

I usually do likewise but, as you say, catching up later would be tough in this case, so I've read almost all of them so far. And have found they've actually inspired me to write. Maybe it'll do the same for you?

That's just not good enough, WW! Cracks whip

Ouch. Okay. I'll do better.

It's called KDP

That's the puppy, thanks. The platform at least.

There is a Windows/Mac tool called Kindle Create that is like a step-by-step wizard thing for converting a bunch of Word docs into the proprietary Kindle format for publishing. There are also similar tools for the more open ePub format floating around the internet.

Ace. It might be called Amazon Content Creator or something now. They tend to rebrand a lot.

The eBooks menu options are for legacy content brought over from the old version of the site. It's not currently possible to link to new eBook content, but maybe one day it will resurface.

Even so, not sure if individual chapters can be combined automatically. Your best bet for now, might be to use the Amazon Publisher tools to combine all the parts into a single eBook and then just link to the final product from your profile page.

feel free to delete this post if it feels like too much self-promotion

It's absolutely fine. It's on topic. And it's great to see the competition entries starting to fill up.

There are some fab tales told to date, so anyone who has an inkling of an idea for something noiresque, please get your writing mojo on and bring it to life for the rest of us to enjoy. Plenty of time left: remember that the 10k word count is a limit not a target, so don't feel intimidated by the length. Fnar.

My idea is still in production and I'm struggling with what to put in and what to hack out. Oh, and finishing it. That's probably important.

Two stories in my series about a delivery driver have been published so far. The first is The Customer Comes First, a light hearted porny romp with a twist on the Wife Lovers theme.

Secondly is a more piece, skirting around , where our intrepid delivery guy becomes entangled in something far naughtier than door to door. Daddy, Let Me is waiting for you.

More yarns are planned in the series if there's enough demand so please show some story love in the comments if you like (or didn't like) them. Many thanks in advance.

I can't 'Like' a story from a mobile device.

So you don't see this at the bottom of every story except your own? Or is it visible but the buttons don't work?

I spotted this anomaly last month and reported it so hopefully a fix is in the works. Thanks for the nudge, Susie. Someone will pass the nudge on.

Then I should jolly well go and read that. And why aren't I following you? I shall make amends there too.

Violence is absolutely fine in stories. As you say, it can't be directly linked to a sexual act. And just keep the graphic detail something below Tarantino levels. You'll be fine then.

Edit: Jen beat me to it

I usually don't consider it ready until I can do a full read-through with few if any corrections or improvements

This is me too.
