Would all the girls she's constructed from also have to give consent?

Tricky, haha. If she was made of bits of people that were already dead and the last component of Frankengirl was something that made her alive, it'd probably be okay if it was handled well.

The only thing the rule's there for is to avoid snuff stories and ick. Steer clear of those and it should be passable.

a guy who could not get his ideal girlfriend and so "makes one" every valentine (in a Frankenstein kind of way)

Imo, this could still work if the constructed girlfriend came alive or was shown to have a soul and could consent in some capacity. Maybe along the lines of The Man With Two Brains.

do we have to pay taxes on this possibly addtl income

Dunno how it is in the US, but here we have a tax-free allowance that's currently up to about 12k before the government get their grubby mitts on some. Getting 12k from story tips would be a nice problem to have and pass onto my accountant 😎

Bottom line, unless you're a recognised author and it's your only income stream, tidbits can probably be squirelled away as donations or gifts for your hard work. But I didn't say that, if the IRS drop in on you for a coffee. We encourage authors to be upstanding, tax-abiding citizens.

you guys really have to stop trying to sell Lush 2 as a better site for your users. It's really insulting.

Quite. Regular blocks of 8+ hours of downtime were a real usability boon on Lush 1.

Can we try and stay on topic please.

Broadly speaking, does horror/comedy fit the theme?

The rules state "We’re looking for sexy stories with a dark twist". And there's such a thing as dark comedy, so I don't see why not.

It is with great pleasure that I announce our first panel EP of 2023. While it's a horror story that was published ages ago, I recently stumbled upon it in my reading queue and fell in love with the way every part of the subtle setup is so well crafted that you can't stop reading to find out when and how the wheels fall off for the characters.

If you're going to write horror, this is how to do it. It's stellar storytelling and I urge you to check it out if you haven't done so already

Congratulations, Alyx.

Sorted. I returned the story to you.

You're not alone, and this aspect of the user experience needs attention one day.

Yeah, I feel the analyzer results should be taken with a hillock of salt. Clearly the algorithm isn't doing in-depth analysis, given it spews a result out in a fraction of a second, even on a 10k-word story.

That gender analyzer thinks I write with a predominantly feminine tone; sometimes way way waaaay fem. Intriguing.

Barring the odd micro, only two of my stories in the last few years are designated masculine: Embers (allegedly written from the female POV but... clearly I failed lol) and Chasing Daydreams. Colour me surprised.

Automatically adding to the reading queue is a way to ensure that no story is missed, since bell notifications sometimes don't come through.

My take would be that if you don't care enough about an author's work that it goes on your reading queue, don't follow them. Friend them instead, perhaps.

It would be nice to have a visual indicator of how many 'new' items are in your queue since you last visited (or a total number of items in the queue) but I'm not sure if it's easily doable.

Yeah, I think the only way is to click through to the story, scroll to the bottom and click the "x Reading Queue" button.

It'd be nice to be able to multi select the stories from the queue itself and delete en masse. I'll see if they'll add that to the development list.

Yes, by all means. If you scroll down to the end of any of your drafts, you can see there's no Published date, nor any user interactions panel (like/favourite etc) which is a nice visual check that you're looking at a draft and not a live story. Delete at will.

I think it's meant to be for adding the usernames of calloborators. Start typing and pick from the shortlist.

But if that is its purpose, it's not the world's best named input field.

I thought that Emma Watson ran rings round every other Hogwarts kid actor.

And although not a film, the two main leads in Gortimer Gibbon's Life On Normal Street (Sloane Morgan Siegel and Ashley Boettcher) had fantastic range, from comic timing to emotional drama. That may have been down to the exceptional writing rather than the actors, I'm not sure. But it was a fantastic show nonetheless.

I have a trilogy that is half written, which I'm super proud of. It's a collab with the awesome tams_back_yay who has unfortunately been awol for a little while, so I'm hacking away at it piecemeal when I get the odd moment. Hoping she'll be able to reel my writing in to make the story even more awesome. It's a gritty, sexy thriller set in London. And it won't be released until we've written all three parts.

There's also a forthcoming collab with Jen: a continuation of my Tabby series. So if you haven't caught up with this naughty cheating couple, then now's a great time to do so, ahead of the release of the third instalment where they push boundaries even further in the office after hours.

I have a student-teacher piece in development that I've offered to another writer for assistance. I want it to be a little different from the regular tropes and I'm planning it to be Damon Albarn levels of clever, along with the hottest tease in existence. Hopefully.

Plans are also afoot for a gay male story, but I'm struggling to make it a bit different from the wealth of excellent works already on the site. This may be a slow burner so may take some time to write.

One final story I have in development, about an elusive neighbour and a teen who housesits for him, is destined for the category. That's only about 5 paragraphs in, though.

Lots of stuff in the works and, of course, hundreds of files littering my drive in various states of finishedness.

For me, a red light is if I see the category microfiction, monster sex, sci-fi, mind control etc

If I have to work too hard in a classic 'alien world' sci-fi or fantasy piece and can't tell the character names from the planets (hello, Ximni from Namphorg) then I tend to switch off. But I won't usually discount a story based entirely on category, because they can be surprising.

I've written a few in the fantasy/sci-fi category that (I hope) are more "real world" science fiction where human interaction is still the focus. The stories just happen to be set in some different or future world, but it isn't usually the central plot device, nor is it rammed down your throat. Try Fate Into Doubt Won't Go, for example.

As deal breakers of my own. I rolleyes at the laundry list, like sprite. I dislike crap dialogue with character names repeated every few lines, like Jen mentioned. But one thing that puts me off beyond all else is when a story that draws me in breaks its own code.

A bit like Seeker and others say, if a story is going well and a character begins acting, well, out of character, my suspension of belief is shattered. It takes me right out of the story zone and I find it difficult to reimmerse myself.

Hmm I'm not so wildly popular that I've ever had more than a handful that I scroll through in the little popup window. If it only shows 10 at a time and starts at the most recent, then it probably should be looked at to see if improvements can be made.

I'll flag this to the dev team, thanks for raising it.

I threw a cheeky entry into the unofficial Christmas micro competiton. Although it was eclipsed by many other amazing entries, including the fabulous winner by Seeker4, I enjoyed putting It's Tradition together. And at only a hundred words, well, won't take long to read.

If you fancy something a bit meatier and are a fan of strong females taking the dominatory role, you'll enjoy my love letter to the facesitting genre. Featuring themes such as smothering in leather trousers, clothed female nude male, ass worship and some light BDSM action, Sit is a hot read.

Thanks in advance for checking them out, and please follow me if you like my work. Regularly check your Reading Queue, as all future stories will automatically be added to it when you follow me.

Well done, seeker. A deserved win for sure. Loved what you did with the word count. Impressive stuff.

I read pretty much all of the entries and enjoyed how varied (and often twisted) they were. Back slaps all round for everyone who entered.

I'm not a steampunker but was mulling an idea around the other day, since I need to conquer my fear of this category to work my way towards the Omni badge by, like, the year 2074 at this rate. I'm hoping your story provides much-needed inspiration so I've added it to my queue.

In my WP it says 100 words.

Before submitting it says 100 words.

After submitting it says 101 words.

The external counter is a bit off. We go by the one in the editor. You'll be fine.

Stunned to have made the podium given the incredible field. After reading the first 6 or 7 entries to hit the comp page, I knew I'd have to up my game considerably. The depth of storytelling was beyond impressive.

Cue writing and editing session after session after session, including some frustrating moments where I almost gave up. But I'm glad I persevered and am honoured to be within the company of such talented authors on the podium and beyond.

Thank you as ever to the team running the site, the judges, fellow authors and readers who put so much time and energy into consuming the vast number of words on display and enjoying the stories within.

Love being part of this site.

Say waaht? Awww shucks, thank you.

Just doin' what I can to help the site. Figured I might as well use my background and degree for something useful at last!

Thank you to Jen, John, the awesome mod and development teams, and everyone who grills the site on a daily basis to feed back bugs and feature requests. This place is fab because of everyone involved.
