Hi

With some recent changes to the way we defined a Chapter Series (thanks @Green_Man for your help) I thought its worthwhile documenting the process for others to follow.

1. The first story in the series, you need to flag this as a series collection. From the Story Edit page, check this box.

2. Submit your subsequent chapters without checking the box and make sure you back reference to the previous story to create the proper path.

Chapter 01 <= Chapter 02 <= Chapter 03 <= Chapter 04

3. This will provide you with the proper next / previous links throughout your series.

4. Add the proper grouping and sorting on your stories page

If you have any issues with this, let me know.

i'm so glad now i did not choose a 3 digit maximum to store the counts!

I took a look at this Series Collections category in my own stories. Right before Stories Collaborated. It is interesting, Gav. But it seems to be a large number of stories that may or may not be part of a series. I'm not sure what criteria you used to cause them to be collected in this way but a lot of single stories, with no reference to any others, seem to be gathered together. If you were using the Link this Story function in the submission panel then it would necessarily put a lot of stories not in a real series in association with each other.

Just a quick observation.

You're spotted the weakness. I've attributed a series story as one with links to subsequent chapters. Sounds like this is used for other reasons, so we probably need an explicit option for this?
sorry folks, the stories server is under maintenance.
should be back online within the hour.

Hi Lush Team -

Is there anyway once you read a story that it goes to a lighter font so you know you read it. I noticed that when I was reading the comp stories it was so helpful?

Can you add to the drop down box on our friends list if we want to keep them as friends but not see when they sign on?

Hope that makes sense.

Thx B.

Hi B
The link font on the home page _should_ change to a lighter grey once you have visited that story. Is this not happening for you?

See the image below, the red underline changes to grey once you've visited it.

Okay, a thought just occurred to the ape. It was actually inspired by something I was looking at on the "blue site" but would be applicable to both. And, yes, it may have come up before but I don't feel like wading through the 5200+ posts in this thread to find out. In fact, I vaguely recall it being discussed before.

Could we have a "Series Title" field on stories and the a new section on our profile that lists series? So if I have a story called "The Bride's Awakening" and it's part of a the series "Wedding Interrupted", I would put "Wedding Interrupted" in the series field and then when someone clicks on that series on my series page, that story, and other stories with that series title, would be listed. (BTW, that's not a hypothetical example). We could still use the linking to tie them together as well, but it provides another access point (librarian speak) for people to find the stories in a given series.

So we could tag the first chapter in the series and list those in a new dedicated section:

Then allow the user to continue reading using the links to the remaining chapters.

That could work?
i've looked at offering support for Giphy

https://giphy.com

you can copy the GIF link from the Copy Link section on an image i have added a new icon for Giphy support on a friends wall.

if this looks ok i can look at making it more widespread across the site.

Hi,

It should only remove your account from desktop, but please don't do it until we're 100% sure!

I'll ask Gav to take a look. I am fairly certain it won't delete your desktop account as it was more of an import process and hasn't been fully synchronised yet.

Nic

At present a delete on either site will not trigger a delete on the other.
Images can now be embedded into your story content.

A new image icon on the toolbar is now available:

Clicking this will show the image chooser dialog:

Here you can enter the Url to the hotlinked image or image from your gallery. We recommend you link to images from your own gallery to ensure the asset is available (some sites disable hotlinking).

Images embedded will be subject to the same moderation process as your story content.

Let me know if you have any feedback on this feature.

Thanks

Still craving picture-stories.

Current software has the ability, it just needs to be turned on.

Bumping up !

I shall take a look at the scope of this feature and let you know when this may become available.
I mostly cyber with myself, but seeing as though I was not an option (pouts) I choose Buz!
I knew there were two hard things in computer programming, cache invalidation and naming things. Now we have a third contender, timezone offsets.

Ok competition should be available again for one more day.
I truly am blown away by your kind words here, thank you everyone.

It has been a real honour to be part of this site, from its inception to now. From its humble beginings when Nicola and I first had our lunchtime meetings in Sydney to where we are today. What a ride.

Special mention goes out to the mother of all awesome, Sprite. She has cemented herself in Lush folklore, a true superstar. A big shoutout goes to all our moderators who keep the site running and keeps all these perverts in check.

Us nerds are busy planning on the next incarnation of the mobile site. Noll has generously put his hand up to help as well as She. Watch this space...

Awesome! I know he's bored and twiddling his thumbs like the Maytag guy. biggrin

Your ghostly friend challenge made me not sleep.

So I'm keen to understand what you are seeing. Your friends list in your settings page will not show a user who no longer has a profile on here (been deleted). So perhaps you are seeing friends who have deactivated their accounts? Are these what you classify as dormant?
I need to migrate databases and IP's onto a new server so these services will be down for an hour.

The rest of the site should operate normally.

Thank you Gav for your hard work.

As a 30 year veteran of the IT world and a system admin for several data-centers, I understand how things can go beyond our estimated time frame. Hope it wasn't too bad on you. Hopefully you kept all your hair unlike me. I pulled all mine out back in the days of floppy disk backups. LOL.

Those were the days!
We did run overtime a little, but I'm sure no one noticed.

Let me know if you see anything out of the ordinary. I'm looking at you Sprite silly
Ok its this time tomorrow. Sorry if I confused anyone, dam you timezones!

Someone asked me so I thought I would check into it here. Does this affect the blue side as well?

Yes all sites including mobile.
We need to upgrade the storage engines in the database and media store. We have ~1tb of data to backup and restore so its expected to take up to 12 hours.

I suggest you all start downloading the site for offline use silly

wget --recursive www.lushstories.com

This is scheduled for 14:00 Pacific Time.

Today I noticed that this bug still exists. Not only that, but if the author wrote a note a note to the moderators it will actually be shown here as well. That clearly isn't right, as the note is only meant for the moderators, not for the general public.

Thanks Noll. I shall get a patch for this as soon as possible.

you have a nice ass, Gav.

It is as white and hard as it looks
we have just added a new extension to the story authoring process (suggested by DarkSide) where you can add alternate endings to your story. this allows the reader to choose their own ending, helping to make the stories that much more immersive.

you might have noticed a new toolbar icon on the story submission box. this blue forking arrow will insert a new section to edit area where you can define a heading and body to the ending.

then the reader can click on the heading to reveal the ending.

let me know if you have any comments.

cheers

I just posted in the happy birthday thread for Moon03 and discovered to my astonishment that I posted as guest, in spite of being logged in to lush. It seems that is happening to more people. I solved it, by logging on to the forum separately, but it it is a very odd experience.
