I noticed some other issues on the group edit page:

- Under the tags field it says "A comma seperated list of keywords people can use to find your group". But if you do use commas, either just "," or ", " they will be replaced by a space after submitting the form and seperate tags and up as a single spaced tag in the tag cloud.

- Changes in tags are not updated in real time in the tag cloud, which means that the tag cloud may contain tags that are not bound to a single group.

- It's standard form behviour that when a normal text input has focus and you hit enter the form that the input belongs to will submit. On the edit page though the form data is not submitted, but you will navigate to https://www.lushstories.com/search-results.aspx?query=Search%20Stories. This is quite odd and confusing behaviour.

I have fixed all these issues. I dont know what I was thinking, a map/reduce job for 8 documents. Big data boys smile

Could closed groups ("by invite only") get an aditional marker, like a lock similar to password protected chat rooms, to make it clear they're closed?
Thx.

Certainly can, will be there in tonight's update.

You did a real good job with the feature Gav. Especially since you've been updating it here and there. The recently active group display and tag search now work and the custom avatar is a nice touch.

A few more things to consider if you aren't already thinking about them.

It would be nice to have an edit feature to fix typos.

Also if you use an @ symbol plus someones exact username it would be cool if that persons avatar appeared so it's more obvious when someone is directing a post at them while you're perusing the discussions. Like if someone puts @gav a humping storm trooper appears at the start of the post. An alert in the timeline would be cool too.

Also if you're the owner of a group and you go to delete a post it seems sorta pointless that the system sends you a message to your inbox so that you can tell yourself why you deleted a post. If it needs to be that way because it's tied together with mods you appoint and if they delete a message than I suppose it's just more of an annoyance rather than a bug or anything.

Thank you sir.

Edit is a bit of work, I'll put that on the back burner for now. With the @mention you should see a new entry appear on your timeline for this, something like:

gav has quoted you in the Group Discussion Felix the Magical

With the Delete email, I dont suppose you were deleting your own post? If not can you send me the message you got.

I actually agree with a lot of Jacks ideas and would like to see them too (shocker)

Weird tho I just started getting emails about the group thread which I am only a member of one and it tells me that a comment has been made on a group that I created?? I didn't create the group Jack did I just joined?

See below and apologies its not fully shown as its on my personal email which is private.

A new comment has been made on a discussion you created‏

Hi Kiera,

A new comment has been made on the discussion All Time Greatest Villains.

Hannibal Lecter-Silence of the Lambs and Cody Jarret-White Heat

To view this comment in full, visit the discussion All Time Greatest Villains

Prefer not to receive email alerts? You can turn them off on your member profile page.

Cheers,
Lush Stories Admin

I'm still trying to work out what we need from an email alert. Suggestions?
Perhaps an email when a comment is made on a discussion you've participated in and an email when a new discussion is created.
This would be across all groups you are subscribed to.

Is there any way to stop seeing stories from particular authors on the home page? As a test I tried blocking a user, but still saw their stories on the home page, so that doesn't appear to be a solution. Thanks in advance.

Sure this is possible. As others suggest its similar to the block categories concept.

We really need a tool where suggestions and ideas from the community can be voted on, which feeds into my priorities.

LOL, at first I seriously thought you were taking the piss out of her, until I got curious and took the effort to check it out Never seen or heard about such a feature.

Do we see all of the groups or only the groups that our friends start?

On the groups home page or in your activity feed?

I've asked Gav to take a look. Very weird.

Is it wrong to blame Buz, as his post was the only one showing?

Should be fixed now loops.
^^Didn't that escalate quickly^^

Ok a few quick wins before I start my Friday afternoon beers:

@Liz

Sorted - Can we get the little toolbar (youtube + image links) above the text box on the 'Start New Discussion' page also?
Sorted - Perhaps re-jig the size of the group boxes (div class="group-summary") to show a little more of the summary.

@BiMale73 (I knew I could count in your keen eye)

Sorted - When creating/editing a group the description for the banner image says it should be able to repeat vertically. That should be horizontally (even in Australia).
Sorted - Markdown legend: it says that *text* should become bold, but you need **text** for that. *text* becomes italic.
Sorted - Opening posts: the avatar link lays on top of the reply link below. Will test this in another browser in a sec, cause I use an exotic one at the moment.
Sorted - The description below the textarea for posting a reply says you can use @username to 'quote' someone. I guess that should read 'mention'.

@Mysteria27

Sorted - Is it possible not to see all your friends activity in the groups?

I shall sort out some of the more difficult ones next week.

I was hoping it would be different this time around.

Ever the optimist, I know we can turn that "FUCK OFF" to "LOVE YOU" given time, patience and a bottle of Glenfiddich.

I too would love to see the block go that those that are block cannot see your profile at all, that would be so awesome, once they are blocked they are gone period, no longer to be seen period any where. also....

Is there anyway of making it so you can sign in completely anonymous. I mean I am set to away and set invisible. But still that black box comes up showing them I have signed on. Some times I would like to sign on and just be left alone, Im sorry if that sounds bad, but some times you just need alone time. Thanks Gav ,your awesome!!

Have you tried holding down the shift key when you login? That will not alert your friends that you have just logged on.
You guys have always been there for me, my quality assurance team. I would appreciate if you could have a play with my new Groups feature and let me know what you think.

There's still some work to do, but its almost production ready.

Please let me know any bugs you find, anything that's hard to follow or understand and any new features you would like to add.

There have been no exception logs generated from the story submission page.

To me this sounds like you are trying to submit some invalid data (probably the story). Does it contain tags you've copied and pasted from Word?

Sounds like you have a solution for now, use Chrome
hi
i've just added a restriction to the chat rooms to limit free members to access one room at a time. some of the more popular rooms were becoming full with squatters and this limit makes things fairer.
any issues let me know.

This post has been hidden as you have blocked this member.
Sorry I couldn't read your post, I have you blocked

Its more about filtering out the nonsense from a thread. Of course you can still read the posts if you want by logging off.

Maybe we need to add a reveal link incase you really want to see it?
I have been inspired by some of our members to delve into the forum code and to implement a feature to remove posts from members you have blocked.

From now on when you have a member blocked (not a moderator of course!) that makes a post in a forum, their message will be replaced with:

This post has been hidden as you have blocked this member.

Hope this helps.

That's great.
Thanks for responding Callisto.

This should be live now.

I was just awarded the 'Electorate' badge (twice in the last few months) - though I know I've not voted on that many stories, here.

How wonky is the badge system? Does it ever get corrected? How important is it to admins? I'm not sure - but thught I'd throw it out there as a potential bug.

I usually get bothered with requests for missing badgers, not extra ones. If you *really* wanted an answer I guess I could...
So now the Away message in combination with the 'Send my away message to online messages also' you will no longer receive a black box online message.

Hello,

Every so often, but regularly enough to be a concern, I receive a vote on my stories with the comment "undefined". At first I thought that people were circumventing the need to comment when voting by entering that word. However, seeing as it is consistently the same word and always in lower case, I have come to believe that there is something wrong with the option to force readers to comment when voting. Either their comments are being dropped, or there is a way to avoid commenting altogether. Please could you let me know why this is happening?

Thanks,

Lars.

hi lars
i have seen this issue before. there is some browser/device that struggles with the javascript required to show the popup, capture the coment and post this back to the server. undefined is what javascript uses if a variable hasn't been declared, so this becomes their comment.

hope this helps.

Thank you for your response. Would it appear better if I resized it to 100x100? And, on FB you can drag the square over the area you would like to appear in it. smile

So here's what I can do from a css perspective. I can stretch all avatars to fill a 100px square as below (note writergirl and snowangle'a avatars)

Or I can keep the aspect ratio but fill up the horizontal space

Its a shame that avatars aren't always the same nice shape sad
Quote by wonderway
On my profile, my avatar is in the square perfectly. But when it is reduced on a friends list or on a following list, it is off center. Is there a way to center one's avatar or does it need to be a certain size to always appear centered?

The problem is avatars come in all shapes and sizes. In order that the friends list looks semi reasonable, we create a 100px x 100px box around each avatar and crop (from top left). For some like your own it will remove some of the detail from the original image.

If anyone has a FB account and would like to tell me how they do it, I would love to know smile

Mine are all fine, except my background. I noticed others have the same issue.

Should be all fixed now.

There _maybe_ a few missing images for anything that's been uploaded the past few days
Quote by sprite

be really cool if they did, tho. could post flying monkey images and they could actually fling poo at other members.

What time is this showing? Can we nominate members to be pooed?
Quote by sprite
like when geese fly from the arctic to warmer climes to mate?

yes but your images wont shit on people as they fly over head. i'm looking at you Mr Pelican.
i'm in the middle of a data migration, so you images might be missing for a bit.

These issues regarding what you can access once your membership has expired should be fixed now. Contact me via the contact us page if you still have problems.
