Rachel,
This is one of the best posts I've ever read. You did an amazing job talking about yourself and I bet it wasn't easy. I wish I'd be as good as you. I'm too afraid, I had so many disappointments by friends who promised me to be good listeners but they really weren't. Trust is something I don't give lightly.
I'm not so good letting go, but I found that writing is my therapy and in my stories there's always a piece of myself. If a good reader want to read carefully, he/she can find me there. One day I wish I'd be able to tell my hole story as clearly as you did.
I don't know you, but please, accept my virtual hug.
Have a good rest of your day.

This is also probably a really stupid question but what is the difference between someone deliberately downvoting a story and someone thinking a story was formulaic or cliched and voting it a lower score such as a 3 for example when others are gushing over it and giving it a 5.
Does the 3 not count and be seen as a downvote rather than someone's opinion?
How can whoever is removing the deliberate down votes tell the difference?

I was actually looking for the ranking available. I know how to change it, but I'd like to use a smart one. So I was asking if there is a list of the possible rankings. Sorry if I didn't use the proper word.

Hi all. I've only just heard about this project, and what an amazing one it is! I might share a little at some point, but just now I just wanted to say I think this is a really brilliant space here for this community.

Rumplators, this is just plain ridiculous. According to one of thos new-fangled Amazon Echo 'Alexa' machines, a few minutes ago the temp in Portland, OR was 112f. Meanwhile out here in the desert, in the 'Valley of the Sun' the temp was only 106f. BTW, the sultry, Steaming, sweltering ,siren of Seattle, that would be our, Sprite, is enjoying temps of just over 100f.
Seeker, think I'll join you in chugging down a tall, cold 'Tailgater'. Anybody else want a drink?

Bumping this. There are quite a few verifiers having a well earned vacation at the moment, so we're a bit thin on the ground.
Please be patient![]()

Sprite wears DMs too??
My respect for her has only increased.
To the wonderful Sprite, may you have a special year and all the blessings this Witch can recite.
You're a priceless jewel of a human being and I'm quite potty about you.

Ok. so what is the best start to a story, I prefer to introduce characters but i was wondering are some stories better when it jumps right into the action with no build up...
what is the general view on this and how is the story to get anything other than scratching the surface without that base?

I think the best way to start a story is to punch your reader right between the eyes.
Go big. Go bold.
Hook them right from the very first sentence.
I'll give you a couple of examples:
