Trying to find my inner calm as we get ready for the onslaught of unsupervised teens that will descend upon us at some point during the week for their Beach Week. The good news is that we managed to convince the police to use our property as a headquarters for this annual tradition. It sucks out loud. We have to spend money on a temporary chain link fence and armed guards. For the past few years, we have left town during this time. But it's our turn to stick around again this year. Fingers crossed things go smoothly.

I never realised that 'Beach Week' was such a big issue in the US. We never hear about them and don't have them in the UK. The nearest we get is Freshers' Week at the start of the university year.

It sounds like one American import we don't need. I hope next week passes uneventfully.

Alzheimer’s sucks. I feel for him. I never thought my parents would have such horrible end of life experiences.

I feel for you, Kimmi. I believe that in the past, I might have mentioned that my mum died of Alzheimer's. My dad cared for her with very little help from our NHS. It took a toll on him, so I do have some idea of what you are facing. 😢

Tonight, have a drink on me.

Here is my 2nd and final effort... 🙄😊

Flower Girl

“Run, find your freedom. It's good for your mind, your soul,” my boyfriend suggests.

I want to do it – expose my naked body to the sun, the elements.

I do it!

My dress falls away; my breasts bounce into view.

I’m running, my clothes falling away until I’m naked as the day I was born.

Then a hand on my shoulder – caught.

Perhaps I shouldn’t have streaked in the middle of the garden centre!

I want to once again say how sorry I am for your loss. Though I can only offer my heartfelt condolences, I do hope that these messages help with the start of the healing process. I may have never chatted, messaged or read any of Simplicity's stories until today, but now I have... and all I can say is she was a talented writer. ❤️

By the way, I'm another, David.

Hi Rumpies wave

Me a happy lil Kimmi ‘cause son came to visit. ❤️ I think he looks like a pirate. 🤣 He’d been gone all of June building sets, climbing, grips, and riggin’ for Bonnaroo. His adoption day is end of July and I’m trying to think of something we can do that’s not out in sweltering heat.

It's lovely to hear (and see) your son is home for a while, Kimmi. It's always nice to have your family around. 😊😘

Enjoy your time with him...

My experience on another site with this is that the first people to apply tend to be exactly the ones you don't want moderating. People with an agenda, people who think "I can do it better", people who just want the power trip. And even if you did, I would suggest that part of the qualifications for applying would be a resume of published Lush stories. After all, do we want someone who knows squat about writing or the basics of writing like spelling and grammar to be a mod? Right. And the best way to test for that is to review their own writing.

A good point, Seeker4, and something I agree with and would expect. Hence, the need for good private vetting along with other measures.

I only brought the suggestion up, as I hate to think that the enjoyment of this wonderful site is waning for some due to the workload, the story publishing waiting times or the unseen pressure to moderate due to the length of the approval queue.

I keep this post short; I do have some ideas, but I keep them private.

“Shhh Man”

“Shhh,” the handsome stranger sighs.

Then, with urgency, he takes my hand, pulls me into the alcove’s darkness.

“I want you – I can set you free from your marriage.”

There’s an unseen connection, a passion bonding us.

He pulls me into his gorgeous, well-kept body.

Our mouths meet, intensely, and hands roam.

Then his lips caress my neck and travel lower.

With fervour, he takes my aching cock into his mouth.

I’ve found freedom.

Sorry, I’ve always been a stickler for rules. Why have them if they aren’t going to apply. This is supposed to be fun.

This is a small enough word count that authors can count themselves, I think.

I’m not counting any more, leaving it to the author. My judge, however, will count those she selects, toss out any over 75, and choose another. My judge is not a word processor so “me—I” is counted as 2 words.

I'm just grateful that we have 5 extra words this time. 😊 Though that does mean I have to use my hand one extra time when counting them! 🙄🤣

All this Lego talk has triggered painful memories! Ain’t nuttin’ more painful than steppin’ on one of those fucking things, and my son left them strewn everywhere when he was younger. Little Lego men body parts were the worst!!! 😨

We know exactly what you mean, Kimmi!

Just a strong coffee for me, as I plan to do a little writing this morning... and if they turn up, watch the scaffolders take the scaffolding down. The work is not quite finished... but they are going to do the last small bit with just a ladder. 😊

1. Availability. Many have been approached and don't have the time.

2. Mettle. Moderating is a demanding role, especially for a voluntary position, and many have burned out from trying. We don't want anyone to be turned away from what they do best: writing.

You need a thick skin and even temperament to manage it, among other things.

Thank you for taking the time to answer WW.

Not expecting an answer, just throwing this idea out there for thought...

Rather than the admin approaching and searching for new moderators, why not do the reverse?

Have keen LS members (not just authors) answer a well-worded LS forum advert. Doing it this way may unearth new talent. After all, you don't have to be a fantastic writer to be a good, well-balanced, thick-skinned moderator. 🙄😊

Tonight hubby and I will finish our Lego cityscape of Rome. They actually don't make that set anymore so I bought the knockoff brand back in January. Finally getting around to enjoying Lego building time. Yes we are geeky and we love it!

We are another couple who enjoy building things with Lego. 😊

Here is a photo showing some of the models we built over the years.

Just dropping in to say "Hi" and for a quick cup of Yorkshire tea. 😊

Kat was not the only person who was chased off the beach on Saturday. Though for us, it was just rain, no thunder and lightning.

For a later this year release, I've just started laying out what will be my 7th novel. Though currently I'm just revisiting the last two chapters of my first novel, adding cover photos and the novel's tag, plus a little housekeeping on the grammar. Doing this is also helping me refresh myself on where my characters came from as I continue their journey. 😊

Just to advise that these will be a little slower than usual for premium members whilst we work on the story backlog.

If you normally submit stories immediately they're approved, can we please ask that for now you give a few days grace to help us out.

Thanks.

Thank you for letting us know, Jen. 😊

I see there are 27 story moderators, plus the admins (if needed). While I'm sure this has been discussed many times... However, what is the main reason for not increasing the moderator pool beyond this number?

In my opinion, I believe Lush Stories will continue to gain popularity (if fees are kept reasonable). So it may become more of an ongoing issue (among other things).

I also feel the moderators are the beating heart of LS. Without them, this site just would not work so well. 😊

Update from my earlier post.

My 6-book series: "The Alpha Man in Me" (84K words), "Bonding" (91K words), "Crete" (106K words), "Clare" (112K words), and "The Three of Us" which I will be splitting into two books (155K words).

Current running total: 548K words.

I just started work on the 7th book, "Our Game", which I hope to publish here towards the end of the year.

How many categories do you have left for the Omnium?

I’m let you read it when I’m done, if you want. smile I have to say, I’m liking it!

I have written stories in 49 genres, if you count I/F, which I know is not needed. The ones I have left to do are College Sex, Cuckold, Medical, Mind Control, Occupations, Supernatural, Teen, Trans and Uniform. So nine to go, still quite a way. I was going to get it done this year, but I might let it slide to early next year, as I want to get back to writing my next David, Clare and Sarah book, which will include at least two or three of these genres. 😊

What I can say is my next standalone story will be "most probably" in the Occupations genre. I had hoped to write that this month, but R/L (good things) seems to be stopping me at the moment. The only one that I have no interest in is "Trans", but hey, I'm sure I will think of something, but it's likely going to be a short story. Maybe it will get the most likes! 🤣

One other thing I can now whisper is that the last story that I write to receive my Omnium Badge will be something "slightly" different! 😳🙄

I am always happy to read your stories, Kimmi. 😎

I’ve written a few to both sites, short ones. But I’m not into writing sex right now. Wouldn’t fit right in the story for here if I had to force a spot for sex. Great suggestion, though! Maybe you could write one for both sites? smile

I absolutely certain you can, Kimmi. Though, I’m feeling a little mean suggesting it!, he says smiling. 😊 and suspecting the idea may grow now suggested. 😈

Honestly, I think that plot line is perfect for doing this. Now returning to my dark corner. 🙄😎

Hiya Rumpies wave

A quiet day at work today since my client’s closed. I hope to get a lot of work done on their newest acquisition. Go-live is October.

I’ll be in my corner writing. I have an idea for SS (and a call for submissions). My story’s about man who buys a house where the previous owner passed, and the house was sold furnished. He finds stack of old letters in a desk, addressed, but never sent. Struggles with opening, finding lady addressed to, or just tossing. What’s in the letters haunts him and why did man keep them but never mail them? It draws parallels to a woman in his life he struggles to say things to. smile

Kimmi, you could adapt that engaging storyline to be suitable for both sites. Just a few adjustments along the way as you write both stories in parallel. Has anyone ever tried doing that? 🙄

The electrician just finished his part on our house renovation, so the power is back on. With no other work due until tomorrow, when there will be a big push to finish, he says sceptically, I dropped in for a Diet Coke (which I have already opened and am drinking). 😊

Thank you for getting the bar ready, Lion. 😎

Quote by Seeker4

Worked for my parents. Moved my youngest brother into my room and turned the room he was in, which was really meant as a den, not a bedroom, anyhow into a sitting/TV room. They ended up with me back anyhow the summer I had appendicitis. 😋

When I moved out of my parents' home many years ago, my old bedroom was converted into a dining room within a week! They were taking no chances that I wanted to move back (I never did). However, it was something I found amusing, and I took it with me, managing to incorporate that experience into one of my stories. 😊 The Three Of Us - Chapter 2:- A New Routine

Our big news for today is that our youngest daughter and her partner are moving out today, having completed the purchase of their first place yesterday. 😊 Apart from a brief false dawn in 2019, this will be the first time our house will be child-free since 1996. 😲🤣

Party. Party. Party!

I love them, really... I just prefer them in their own homes, moving on with their lives even if they have raided the bank of Mum and Dad to do so! Not sure if I have a tab, but if not, I'm standing at the bar, wallet in hand! 😳😊

Happy Father's Day to all the other dads out there, and morning/afternoon to the Rumpies in the bar. I would say put the drinks on my tab, but being a Brit, we don't have tabs; we have to go up to the bar and pay. 😕 So I agree with Kat; put drinks on her tab. 😜🤣

Unlike Mother's Day, Father's Day never used to be much of a thing in the UK when I was younger. Even today, my three just send me a message wishing me well, and when I was young, we never celebrated it at all. However, though he passed two years ago, I will be raising a glass to him later today while watching the Canadian Grand Prix. 🍷

Before I add my two cents' worth, I have to state that I consider myself nothing more than a hobbyist story writer (not to the same standard as many above), who had never written anything of interest until January 2021. Then, for fun, I wrote a book, "The Alpha Man in Me". In 2022, I adapted for LS and then began posting it here, simultaneously learning grammar as I went along.

Now, two and three-quarters years later, I have found I can write stories with reasonably good grammar and sometimes “slightly” different plotlines. The one thing I have never had an issue with is coming up with story ideas or, luckily, finishing a story.

Here is my short story thought process…

1. Decide what genre I am writing in.

2. Look for an idea. This could come from something as simple as the cover photo or from an idea I thought of on an earlier date and had in my head or on notes.

3. Handwrite a brief story plot. This is normally nothing more than a couple of paragraphs.

4. Write the first few pages. I prefer to write from 8 am to noon, but it can be all day if words are flowing and making sense!

5. Once the first couple of pages are sensible (I find opening a story often the hardest part), I stop. Then write the closing few paragraphs.

6. I continue writing. Join the story; start with its end. This often means sex scenes are written last. I prefer stories with strong plot lines, characters and twists. Though I do sometimes write them, I am not so much of a fan of over-descriptive sex scenes.

7. It normally takes me around a week to write 5,000 sensible words and then another week to edit and polish a story into something better. This is where I feel a story comes alive. I also believe it is important not to be tempted to publish until it is done, and I mean really completed, which brings me to my final point.

8. Decide if you need to break the story into parts. Is it better to have a story of two 3,000-word parts or one story of 6,000 words? It is an issue that I don’t have the answer to, but I know a lot of readers won’t even look at a story over 3,000 words, which I find a shame.

Point 8 is probably the point I have the greatest issue with. This is because I like spending words on setting the scene. Introduce the reader to the characters and the worlds I create, and then try to make them fall in love with them before sex scenes.

Being an average writer without a huge following, I find it frustrating that points 1 and 8 probably have more influence on how many readers you have looking at your story than the words that are contained within it.

I’m not complaining, but I can back this statement by saying… I wrote one I/F story and gained 168 extra followers from it (at the time, I had around 120). I also received over 200 likes on Part 1 and well over 100 likes on each of the other 3 parts. Even today, I am asked to write more parts, which maybe I will do one day (it is nice to be asked).

Just to round up this long post. I have never binned a story or deleted one. However, I have returned to the earliest novel I posted here and edited it to improve the grammar and add cover photos.

Congratulations, Kimmi, that is a fantastic achievement, two Omnium badges. 😊😘

Congratulations to the winners and to all those who participated. 😊

I thought the idea behind this competition was excellent, and 4,000 words gave enough scope to develop some fantastic story ideas... And so it proved... Well done, everyone. 😊

Now the results are in, and for what it is worth, here were my top three (four).

Obsolete_Fox

CuriousAnne

TheShyThespian

With Katiethewriter entry, a very strong contender.

When I judge a story, I tend to lean towards a strong storyline, but I have no issues with the chosen winners. They were alright up there in my list. In my books, everyone who enters a competition is a winner. This one was one of the best I have done, 4,000 words and a great theme.

My hat is off to Jen and her judging team. 😎

Today is the supposed Big Reveal on the Island Getaway comp. I'm quite certain that a certain Polar Bear won't be ascending to the throne (or at least not THAT throne), but it will be interesting to see how the judges figure it out.

There were 95 entries, and I made it that 27 of them should make the top 10! 😳 So, I wish the judges good luck!

Yes, I did read all the entries and privately judge each story... and yes, I am that sad! 🙄🤣

Blonde... that brings back memories. I didn't have a Debbie Harry poster on the wall, but I did buy their albums. 😊

We saw a Blondie tribute band a few weeks ago; they didn't play "Bang a Gong", but the timing of your post, Lion, is perfect. Even today, "Heart of Glass" and "Atomic" are in my top 25 all-time favourite tracks. 😎

Quote by Seeker4

Maybe I'll give it a look. Steampunk leaves me cold for some reason, even if I've read some stuff that's kind of ancestral to it. Seems to be one of those genres with a checklist of tropes and too much of the steampunk I read seems to be about checking off items on the list. Probably I am being unfair.

Just posting again due to it not all being visible

I think you make a reasonable point, Ape. 😊 In this story, I researched what steampunk is and then introduced those elements into the story. So we've got blimps, steam, top hats and goggles, but I don't think they detract from the story. I could easily remove them, replace them with smoke and Victorian fashion and publish the story under historical.

However, the Onimium Badge says a story has to be published in every genre, so steampunk it is. I only have around 8 genres to go for that badge.

Interestingly, a little while back, I undertook a private LS survey as to which was the most popular genre to the least popular. Yes, I did count every story published. Not surprisingly, the most popular was I/F, followed by straight sex. Least popular is face sitting, followed by strap-on sex. FYI – steampunk was 4th from the bottom on that list.

I doubt much has changed in the last 6 months. 😊
