"You'll never guess who I spoke to on the phone today."
Standing at the kitchen sink, Emma turned her head toward Nathan while continuing to dry the plate she was holding.
"Léa," he said, still looking at his phone. "She called me this afternoon."
Emma's heart skipped a beat, and she nearly dropped what she was holding.
Nathan remained focused on his phone while talking to Emma, and therefore didn't see her reaction.
"Sorry, I had to answer a message," he finally said, setting his phone down on the counter. Emma had regained her composure. "As I was saying, Léa called me today. We had a good chat at the party; she’s really nice, and even though we don’t work in exactly the same sector, she’s interested in some of the services my company offers."
He walked over to Emma, who had her back to him and had been wiping the same plate for several minutes. "Anyway, rather than spending hours talking on the phone, I invited them to dinner on Saturday night." he paused, "I didn't ask you, but I figured you wouldn't mind, since Sebastian is an old friend, after all."
"What?" The word echoed in her mind as she felt the ground giving way beneath her feet. She froze.
Nathan stopped in his tracks when he saw Emma and ventured a tentative, "Em? Something wrong?"
"No... no... my mind was just elsewhere, sorry."
"Em, I can see something’s bothering you. Tell me, what is it?"
Emma’s throat was dry, and the words seemed stuck. Her mind raced to find a believable answer; she couldn't tell him the truth. Under the pressure, the words finally came out on their own, flowing quite naturally, an almost perfectly constructed lie.
"It's just... at the party... you two seemed... close. You stayed glued to each other... you were laughing at all her jokes."
Nathan tried to interrupt, but she went on, "I know it's silly. it's just... it's unsettling. And now you're inviting her to dinner at our place."
Nathan's eyes widened.
"I'm inviting THEM to dinner. Listen, my love, this is ridiculous. We were just talking about work, that’s all. She’s nice, sure, but absolutely nothing is going on between us. And Sebastian was there most of the time. We just hit it off, and I got the impression you were happy to see Sebastian again. That’s why I invited them back. I’m simply interested in the people who were part of the life of the woman I love," he said, his eyes filled with tenderness.
Coming from any other man, it would have sounded cheesy, or even fake. But not him; that was simply how he was, how he had always been with her.
"But if you'd rather I cancel..."
"No, no, it was me, I had a stupid reaction. I'm sorry."
He stepped closer, held her in his arms, and planted a gentle kiss on her forehead.
"Did you really think I'd be interested in a woman in her forties? That's as ridiculous as imagining you attracted to Sebastian," he said with a mocking chuckle.
"Yes, you're right, that would be totally ridiculous..." she said, sounding a bit mechanical.
Emma buried her face in Nathan’s muscular chest to keep her expression from betraying her. He held her a little tighter.
An immense sense of shame, tinged with excitement, washed over her. And yet, the excuse was perfect. It threw people off the scent, diverted attention, and, above all, gave her an "acceptable" reason to appear ill at ease.
"Sorry," she murmured against his T-shirt.
"It’s cute that you’re jealous. But don’t worry. On Saturday, we’re just going to have a meal, a drink, and talk a bit about work. And I’m sure you’ll have a good time."
After planting another kiss on her forehead, he moved away to turn on the TV, having already moved on to something else.
Emma stood there, motionless, in front of the sink.
Without being truly aware, she ran her tongue over her lips, the taste of Sebastian's semen in her mouth came back to her.
~oOo~
As soon as the doorbell rang, Nathan rushed to the door. Emma held back. She had chosen a casual, understated outfit, black skinny jeans and a black camisole. She had hesitated for a long time, as the outfit sometimes revealed her lingerie when she moved, and she certainly didn't want to send any wrong signals.
Léa entered first, wearing a black leather skirt and a white blouse, she was holding a bottle of wine. Sebastian followed, dressed in classic denim jeans and a grey shirt with the sleeves rolled up to the elbows. He, too, held back slightly, looking less at ease than usual.
Nathan welcomed them with a broad smile and took the bottle before enthusiastically saying,
"Thanks! Come on in, make yourselves at home. We kept it simple tonight: duck breast and gratin dauphinois, I hope that suits you."
"Perfect," Léa replied, matching his tone.
They sat down without delay at the already-set table. The atmosphere remained relaxed during drinks and the main course. Nathan and Léa dominated much of the conversation; listening to them, it seemed highly likely they would be working together. Emma made sure to laugh at the right moments, drank her wine a little too quickly, and avoided Sebastian’s gaze as much as possible. Or rather, she looked away whenever she felt that familiar knot forming in the pit of her stomach.
Around 10:30 p.m., the plates were empty. Nathan turned to Emma. "Do you mind if I just show Léa the latest project I'm working on in my office? It’ll only take ten minutes."
Emma replied with a polite smile, "No, don't worry about it; I'll clear the table in the meantime."
"Leave it. We'll do it when we get back," Nathan said.
"I suppose Sebastian can help, if need be. Especially since you say it'll only take ten minutes," Léa interjected. Nathan glanced from Emma to Sebastian and then to Léa. "Okay, we'll make it quick."
Léa and Nathan headed toward the office at the end of the hall; their voices faded away as the office door was pulled partially shut.
An awkward silence settled over the living room. Emma got up to clear the table and to avoid being left alone with Sebastian. She was stacking the plates in the sink when she felt him approach from behind. "Emma..."
She didn't turn around.
"Don't start."
He remained silent for a moment.
"I’m sorry. About 2018. About the restroom the other night. I was a jerk. And I hate the idea that you hate yourself for it."
She closed her eyes. Her shoulders slumped slightly.
When she finally turned around, he was right there, just inches away. The scent of his skin, the memory of his cock in her throat. It all came flooding back at once.
Without giving her time to react, he slid his hands beneath her thighs and lifted her up in one swift movement. Emma let out a stifled gasp. He set her down on the cold kitchen counter, right between the sink and the stovetop. Her legs parted instinctively, allowing him to step in between them. Her jeans were tight, and a strap of her top had slipped off her shoulder, revealing a glimpse of her lingerie. He gripped the back of her neck with one hand and placed the other against the small of her back, just above her buttocks. Then he kissed her, without restraint. It was a raw, hungry, and deep kiss.
His tongue immediately surged forward in search of hers. Emma couldn't help but let out a moan into Sebastian's mouth. One of her hands slid into his hair while the other clutched his shirt. He pressed his hips a little closer against hers; she instantly felt his arousal through the layers of denim. Their tongues and saliva mingled as their breathing grew ragged. He tilted his head slightly to deepen the kiss, one hand sliding along her thigh and up beneath her top.
8 seconds. Nine. Ten.
Then Emma collected herself. She turned her head away, breathless, her lips flushed and glistening.
"Stop..." she whispered.
"Since the last night, all I could think about was fucking you wildly, just the way I wanted."
"They’ll be back," she added, ignoring his last remark.
Sebastian kept his forehead pressed against hers a moment too long, his breath coming in short gasps, his cock still hard against her parted thighs. He slowly lowered her to the ground, adjusted her top with an almost tender gesture, then stepped back.
Suddenly, they heard Nathan and Léa returning. Without a word passing between them, Emma automatically started doing the dishes, while Sebastian rushed to the table to clear away the leftovers.
"You certainly took your time clearing the table," Léa joked.
"Yeah, well, you know me," he replied, smiling a little nervously. Nathan’s eyes went to Emma’s mouth, then to the strap on her shoulder. Nathan sensed something was off, and the thought nagged at him until they left.
Once the door was closed, he turned to Emma. "Did something happen with Sebastian while Léa and I were in the office?"
"What?" Emma replied.
"I don't know, you two were acting strangely."
Emma got angry. "That's ridiculous! Where is this coming from? I told you I didn't want to invite them in the first place, and now you think I'm hitting on Sebastian?"
Surprised by Emma's sudden, uncharacteristic anger, Nathan tried to defuse the situation. "You're getting worked up over nothing. I just got the impression the atmosphere was a bit odd at the end there, but I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. I'm sorry."

Emma didn't speak to Nathan again until bedtime, hiding behind that feigned anger toward him so she wouldn't have to admit she was angry with herself.
~oOo~
A few days had passed, and even though things had calmed down between him and Emma, Nathan couldn't help but think back to that evening. To Sebastian and Emma's strange behavior, and to her flushed cheeks and shortness of breath when he returned to the living room.
"A certain Léa has arrived at reception and says she has an appointment with you."
This sentence, spoken by one of his colleagues, snapped him out of his thoughts.
"Ah... yes... I'll go and meet her. Thanks."
"Hey." Léa appeared in the doorway. "I hope I'm not being too forward, I told reception I knew you, and they just pointed me to your office."
The colleague, who was also standing outside Nathan's office, looked Léa up and down before walking away, visibly a little envious of Nathan. It was true that Léa was a stunning woman, and her outfit for the day was particularly sexy while still remaining professional.
"No, no, you did the right thing... come in and close the door."
Léa did as asked and sat down across from Nathan.
There was a brief, awkward pause, and then Nathan suddenly stood up. "Listen, Léa, I know you came here to talk about the project, but I need to discuss something personal with you first."
"Oh?" Léa said, looking surprised.
"Yes, I know it’s not at all professional, but it concerns both of us."
Léa straightened up and waited curiously for what was coming next.
"I think something happened between Sebastian and Emma on Saturday night while we were in the office."
Léa listened without interrupting, with an impassive expression. When he finished, she was quiet for a second too long.
"I didn’t come here only for the project," she said at last. "I wanted to see how you were. After Saturday."
Nathan frowned. "What is that supposed to mean?"
"That my husband looked at your girlfriend the way a man looks at something he already knows he shouldn’t touch. And that you noticed."
She tilted her head. "You’re still thinking about it. That’s why you brought it up before the work."
"Do you think that... Emma and Sebastian..."
"Fucked?" Léa asked calmly.
Nathan looked at her, horrified. She rose from her seat and walked over to him.
"Don't be silly, we were gone for barely ten minutes. My husband has more stamina than that."
Nathan calmed down a little.
"But I know my husband, and I'm pretty sure he'd fuck her if he had the chance."
Nathan’s eyes went wide. "Wh... what?"
"Don't act so prudish; we all fantasize about people we run into. It just so happens that my husband probably fantasizes about your girlfriend."
"You seem so laid-back about the idea of your Sebastian cheating on you with Emma," Nathan said, dumbfounded.
"That's life. The only thing I can do is put myself on an equal footing. Which is what you should do, too."
"What do you mean?" asked Nathan, completely lost.
"Would it calm you down if I sucked you off?"
"What? Are you for real?" Nathan said, a little louder than he’d intended.
Where many women might have been flustered or embarrassed by the situation, Léa stepped closer to Nathan, who didn't move. She glanced at the closed door, then back at him, as if the idea had been sitting there since she walked in. She leaned in close to his ear and whispered, "Your office door is closed, and everyone knows you're in a meeting. You could fuck my mouth for a good ten minutes without us being disturbed, and maybe even fuck me hard on your desk for another fifteen."
"You... you're crazy," stammered Nathan, feeling his cock harden against his jeans.
"No, you're just a very handsome young man I'm inviting to have a really good time," she said, running a hand over the bulge in Nathan's trousers. "I like what I feel, I can't wait to have that monster in my mouth."
Coming from another woman, Nathan would have found that remark vulgar. But coming from a woman who was usually so classy and respectable, it sent his arousal soaring.
Nathan, on the verge of giving in, regained his composure and stepped back, gently pushing Léa away with both hands. "No, I can't."
Léa seemed slightly hurt by the rejection. It wasn't something that happened to her often, perhaps never. "Your loss. I hope you don't regret it," she said, grabbing her bag and placing her hand on the doorknob. "I suppose following this up with a work meeting would be complicated; let's do it another time," she added, sounding half-flirtatious, half-offended.
She opened the door and walked away with a confident stride, without looking back.
~oOo~
She had been gone for twenty minutes, yet the excitement showed no signs of subsiding. Nathan was enduring a moment of torture, and paradoxically, he had never felt more alive.
Unable to get back to work, he tidied up his things and left as well. Several of his colleagues were surprised to see him leave so early in the afternoon. It wasn't unusual for people at the company to leave early, but it wasn't like Nathan.
On the métro, packed in with strangers, he kept replaying it. Léa’s mouth at his ear. Her hand on him. The ease with which she’d said Emma’s name next to Sebastian’s.
He had said NO. He had done the RIGHT thing. And still, obscene images of Emma and Sebastian in their kitchen flashed through his mind. The thought wouldn’t leave him: that while he had been ten minutes away, something had already happened. That Emma’s flushed cheeks hadn’t been nothing. That he was the only one still pretending. By the time he reached their building, the tenderness was gone. What was left was heat, and a need to take something back.
~oOo~
Emma straightened up at her desk as she waited for the front door to open and close. She walked over, completely surprised to see Nathan already there.
"Nathan, what are you..." He didn't let her finish. He lunged at her, pinned her against the entryway wall, and kissed her passionately. Every question and thought vanished from her mind; her body took control, and she returned his kiss with equal passion.
There was something new about Nathan. Something animal that made Emma suddenly feel soaked.
Nathan broke the kiss first and turned Emma to face the wall; she felt him pressing against her back, forcing her to arch. She didn't resist, placing both hands on the wall in front of her. She felt her dress being pushed up over her hips and her panties pulled down, followed by the sound of a belt being hurriedly unfastened. Breathless and trembling, Emma dared not move. Or even look at him
Soon, she felt Nathan’s hands gripping her hips firmly, and with a sharp, brutal thrust, he drove himself deep inside her, his teeth clenched. Emma couldn't help but let out a cry. He began to fuck her relentlessly, violently pulling her hips toward him with every thrust. Emma bit her lip at first, before letting go and crying out in pleasure, something she hadn't done in a long time. In fact, she hadn't felt such passion and domination since Sebastian, years earlier.
"Is this what you wanted, you slut?"
These words, so utterly unexpected coming from Nathan, triggered a shattering orgasm in Emma’s body as he, still gripping her torso firmly, thrust into her with increasing force. Moments later, he finished by driving himself deep inside her before climaxing with a guttural groan that sounded almost like a death throe.
~oOo~
Emma and Nathan were now both sitting on the sofa, staring straight ahead. After remaining in their post-orgasmic position for a good two minutes, trying to catch their breath, Nathan had finally pulled away; he got dressed mechanically and slumped down onto the sofa. Emma, having recovered from the shock of what had just happened, did the same.
Nathan was the first to break the silence. "I... I don't know what came over me."
"But what put you in that state? And... what you said to me..." Emma said, still a bit stunned.
"I'm really sorry, I don't know what came over me, it was a... complicated day at work," he began. The rest sat on his tongue: Léa, the office, the métro... and he swallowed it. "Then I saw you, and it turned me on. I couldn't hold back the urge," he lied. "And feeling you respond with the same passion... I just got carried away."
A silence hung in the air.
"I'm really sorry, it won't happen again, and..."
Emma placed her hand on Nathan's leg. "No, I mean, it was unexpected, but... I enjoyed it."
Nathan lowered his head and looked down at the floor, smiling. "I'm so lucky to have you."
Emma rested her head on Nathan's solid shoulder. "And I am, too..."
