I'm reading Lost Girls and Love Hotels.

This came out as a movie two weeks ago with Alexandra Dadario.

I liked it, and I like the book even more. The writing is crisp and quite witty. It's only 200 pages.

The movie focuses more on the aesthetics than the character development, which I think was a mistake. But, if you Have Alexandria Dadario playing the lead role... I can see why they made that choice.

It kind of reminded me of the movie Shame, which is one of my favorite movies.



I think it's hard to make a movie about dark sexual subjects but avoid glorifying the sex aspects.

Shame did it very well. Lost Girls... tried but did not do it as well. But the book accomplished it...so far.

I just watched a documentary on the Dozier Reform School for Boys in Northern Florida. After doing some research I learned that Colson Whitehead wrote a book about it Called the Nickel Boys. It won the Pullitzer in 2020 so I'm reading that.

Currently reading the new Paolini novel "To Sleep in a Sea of Stars." Is it a little derivative? Yes. Is it brilliantly original at the same time? Yes. Just a good, old fashioned, Sci-Fi space opera. Lots of action. Lots of interal conflict. Lots of external conflict. Worth sitting in one place for hours on end? Oh, yes! Highly recommended.

This could have been fascinating but the writing style of the author, who seems to lose his way in interminable sentences where he seems to meander off with unenlightening asides before finding his way back to the point, is self-congratulatorily convoluted.

Like that.

On the plus side, I read in bed and this book puts me out like a light.
