moribund groups

I recently went through the groups, just looking. There are 72 pages of groups, but I noticed there are numerous groups with 3 to 5 members and 1 to 5 posts. It takes hours to look at them the way it's set up.

Just looking, it's hard to know if there is any current activity, so my question is, is there any interest in reviewing the groups and deleting those with essentially zero activity?

I belong to over 20 groups. Most are active in one form or another (polls, posts, etc.) There afe a couple that are “moribound” to use your description. I stayed subscribed to them because sometimes new Lush members find them and post there. I like the ability to read and/or reply to help out new Lush members.

But I do understand your frustration with 72 pages of groups (some of which are almost duplicates of others). Maybe instead of removing moribound groups the programmers could add a last active date to the header. Then members could decide if it’s worth subscribing or unsubscribing

As a group moderator, I try to take some time every once in a while to eliminate groups that have zero members, zero posts, and zero media if they have been sitting dormant for some time (I try to give newer ones time to get established).

When looking at groups to join, I personally click on it, and make sure there is some regular activity. Otherwise, it's not worth my time.

Thanks for letting me know. I didn't go into low post groups, but there are so many of them. I'm glad someone is checking.

is there a way to look at a group you’re not subscribed to to see if it’s active. When i select a group I’m not a member of all I get is basic info - what it’s about, the owner, the members but if I select discuss nothing happens. I hate to join a group and then find out it’s moribound and then have to unsubscribe.

Browsing the groups, you can see how many members and how many posts, which can give you some idea of how active a group is, but would it be possible to see the date of the most recent post? That would really useful.

Also, is it ever possible to combine closely related groups? I only subscribe to 2-3 dozen, but even that includes a number of duplicate, low-activity groups that would be livelier if combined.

If you search groups and sort by Trending, it will give you the most active groups first. A quick perusal of the first several pages reveals many active groups. It would be nice if there were dates, but barring that, using the search feature should help.

You can also try reaching out to the owner of the group to see if it still active.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ve noticed that a lot of the groups have owners who are no longer active on Lush (the 90 day message). Maybe that’s a sign that the group is moribound. Although the most active group I particiapate in is Salacious Interrogatory. That group is very active but the owner has been deceased for a number of years. And of course he has the 90 day message.

Daphne has done an amazing job of keeping the group running after SS’s death. I’m a member of that group as well and enjoy the variety of different conversations and topics. It’s a fun group with great people. 😎

She has done that well. And then there are Wolfie and Fluffy to keep people on the straight and narrow on “Question”. I’m so glad I was encouraged to join the SI group. It’s always interesting and often informative. 😀
