Surge in views this month, due to a decent number of stories coming out recently. A lot of stories slipped to earlier in the timeline, but I'm not really expecting that to last. My views utterly crashed when the new mobile site went online. Part of that is certainly the gap since my last story posted, but I think the disconnect between mobile and full site is a factor as well.

Decided to add in "Milf Allie" and "Selfie Stuck" because they appear to be advancing quickly enough to track.

I'm also going to leave myself a note here that "Morning Jo" is at 17005. It could possibly be on a famous track, if it maintains the current pace. Dropping a little note with a timestamp, because I completely missed a story that's closer on the legendary track than the two I'd noted before.

A quick glance at the numbers shows a slowdown, but that's to be expected considering I haven't put out anything new in a couple of months, and the last two that I did release were outliers to the main body of my catalog — especially the highly viewed ones.

Just purchased a brand new PC. First time ordering from an online retailer, ( Cyberpower PC ) and quite happy with the results. I have a system more advanced for the times than I've ever owned before, and it should hold up far longer. Soooo fast. Running brand new games with full display options and no slowdown. 210 some-odd hours on Dragon Quest XI demonstrated that quite well. LOL

All my writing related programs open and work much faster as well, naturally.

Still slowly tweaking my desktop/start menu/etc. to make those programs quick and easy to access. Beginning to get the writing bug back now that I've taken a long, thoroughly enjoyable walk down Dragon Quest lane ( also beat DQVIII on 3DS and I'm in the final grind of DQVII on 3DS ) I'm flipping through my in-progress drafts, mocked up covers, missing Lush categories and such, seeing if anything lights me up.

Since this forum section is about self-promotion, I'll single out "Nude Holly Day" ( linked several times above ) It's been frequently praised for enjoyable, positive characters. He takes on a young runaway as an assistant when she shows up just as he's in desperate need. She turns out to be excellent at the job, and he takes her under his wing, providing her with a stable life and a push towards continuing her education.

Naturally, my views stagnated without new work coming out. That's the #1 takeaway for anyone. Keep producing new work if you want your old work to be read. If you dig back through this thread, you can see the ebb and flow of views when I'm producing nothing, producing normally, and producing at an accelerated pace. The more new work you put out, the more your old stuff gets read, and work related to current work sees the largest bump in views.

The second thing is that an Recommended Read isn't necessarily a boost. Simply having that accolade doesn't affect readers all that much over the long run. In the short term, it has a lot more effect than it does once a story slips deep into the back catalog.

The third thing is that appearing on the popular/most viewed lists does affect things. Those lists are absolutely being used by readers, as evidenced by the stories appearing on the first page of those lists seeing a significant increase in readership. Those stories holding #1 spots get an even larger boost. I only just realized I had the #1 spot in Swingers yesterday. A Fine Substitute and Like Riding a Bike are another demonstration of the limited attraction of an RR. Substitute doesn't have one, while Riding does. Substitute is only a couple of places higher on page 1 of the Milf list, yet has nearly double the reads.

I will note that Substitute has an element of , as she's the mother of his FWB. That's probably a contributing factor.

Another one that's not completely in the data above is "Yule Snow", which has an RR, came out at nearly the same time as "Morning Jo", has a much stronger element, and yet is less than half the views. One contributing factor there is that reluctant Milf is my wheelhouse, so those stories are naturally going to be read more.

As for sticking to the theme of the thread, I'm going to recommend something that's years away from famous this time. "Jerk" is a ( currently ) two part story of a nerd who has been bullied by one of the popular boys his whole life. The bully's mom has always smoothed things over one way or another. This time, our nerd has had enough, and his bully is 18, meaning the whole game has changed. Mom needs to resort to more enticing means of placating him, and catching him staring at her tits gives her an idea.

I've got 5 stories between 19k and 20k views, one of which will probably join the 20k club before the end of the year.

As expected, traffic has been light while I wasn't producing any new work. I only recently released a few new stories, and probably have a couple more in the pipeline.

The two newest stories ( Morning Jo and Selfie Stuck ) continue to draw larger than average views in this list, and the page 1 of popular for the category also do far better than average. Wish I'd taken a reading on "Coming in Third" before posting the prequel "Coming in Second" to see how much traffic the new story drove to the existing one. It was likely a significant boost. Dropped the ball there.

Quite Neighborly keeps inching toward the bar, and will probably hit before the end of the year. If I keep putting out new stuff, it might even clear by the middle of next month.

Quite Neighborly just became my 17th famous story. Updated the numbers, adding a second increase listing for the change since the last posting, which is a little less than a month, compared to the increase from the last posting, which was about three months.

The numbers are kind of all over the place. Some are doing significantly better now that some new stories are coming out. Some are running about the same as they were when I was producing nothing. Some are a little less, projecting out the remaining days to finish the month since the last posting. Of course, only one story I've put out recently has been age-difference, which dominates this list, so there's not a lot of crossover. A longer Milf story with more than a quick handjob would have attracted more readers to what's on this list.

Decided to throw down a marker since I seem to be hitting yet another first of the year motivation slump. The increases on each listing are as follows: About 3 months when I wasn't writing anything. About one month after I started writing again. About 3 months where I had a lot of stories coming out.

Exception, the last two where one only has the latest increase and one is brand new.

Also added everything in the 19k vote range to the about to join the 20k club section for tracking purposes.

Newer stories ( and by "newer" I'm talking as far back as Mid 2018 ) continue to outpace older stories. Part of that is because those older stories are from a point in time where anonymous voting was allowed, and I always allowed it on my stories. I still have that setting selected, even though I doubt anonymous voting will ever be approved on Lush again.

I prefer maximum feedback over maximizing my score, which is why I don't take advantage of things such as the setting to force people to comment when they score. Probably works against me, because it's obvious that getting that perfect 5 score that puts you high on the popular page is a bigger driver of reads than anything other than constant production. If I used all the restrictive settings, my stuff would probably rise higher in the long run.

Anything that's on the first page of the "popular" tab with a high score will outpace similar stories, even if the difference in score is minimal.

Recommended Reads only seem to matter while the story is on the first page. After that, it doesn't seem to attract much attention. I think that's a disconnect between moderators and readers, where the mods prefer stories with high technical marks, clever plotting, etc., and the readership is primarily concerned with the naughty bits. Neither is absolute, but the different preferences are there.

Everything has slowed down except for Nude Holly Day. It's #1 on the Mature popular list, so that keeps it afloat. Haven't released a Mature or Milf story since December, so that's probably what's slowing me down. It's my big draw, and I haven't been putting out any to attract new readers to my back catalog. Almost everything I've put out this year has been 2500 words or 100 word microfiction.

The microfiction contest will be my last. There's like 20 top tier writers entering regularly, so there's not even space in the top 10 list for an honorable mention. For the rest of us, that just means 30 days of not being able to see your stats, which are always lower due to ( appropriately ) more critical voting during contests. I haven't seen any measurable increase in readership from contests, ( other than the microfiction one ) and those little dings to the score hurt the long-term visibility, so the contests are a net negative for anyone who isn't in that top tier of writers. The one time I placed was because it was a sponsored contest and not very many people followed the theme very well. silly

Honestly just wanted to post some pics I've been working on for covers, and have no idea where to put them. LOL I have this huge folder of erotic art I downloaded from a site that was selling the originals, prints, etc., but had a clause in the terms where the images from the website could be used for non-commercial purposes, and didn't even require a link back. Baffled me, but I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth once I confirmed it with the webmaster. It's unfortunately long gone, but fortunately I saved a ton of interesting ones. Since my writing muse seems to be mostly on vacation, I started looking through that to do something productive writing-wise, and maybe find some inspiration.

They're all far too small, so I've been enlarging, cleaning up, doing layout, and in some cases, colorizing black and white images. I've tried to colorize before, and it's always been a disaster, but for some reason, I had an epiphany a few days ago, and the process I came up with is working a treat.













Just felt like sharing, since I'm so tickled this process is working. Now, if I only had some stories to go with them. *sigh*

You should be very proud of your achievements. Out of curiosity, I ran the numbers and at it's average daily, my highest viewed story will take 7+ years to reach Famous status. I doubt I will be here to notice it, so will praise your talent and good fortune now instead.

Most of them that have already hit the mark or are close have the advantage of being up for quite a while, ( "Her Cut to the Chase" for example has already been up for 7 years, and the last track looked like 3 more, which is unlikely with my current traffic ) and the view numbers used to be much higher a few years ago. The double whammy of banning content for a while ( with basically no warning and a rather harsh attitude toward the readers/authors upset by it ) and shortly thereafter going to Freemium really took a toll on traffic, and it's nowhere near to recovering those losses.

A few were just lightning in a bottle or really lucky with being on page 1 of the new list for an extended period of time.

The way things look, Selfie Stuck will probably jump up and beat Her Cut to the Chase over the finish line.

What to promote... Well, that's easy right now. "Boned" was #1 on the Milf Popular list for the longest time, and was a major traffic draw for me. A single 4 a few months back took it from 5.0 and #1 to 4.99 and #132.

Your point about the effect just one "4" can have on a story's position is interesting. It does show that all the stuff about "a 4 is perfectly okay" isn't really true, at least not when it can drop you down like that.

As much as anything, I added this post to highlight my forum banner for "IHOP". The cover for this one was more or less all NSFW, leaving no option for creative cropping, so I had to go with censoring. I'm particularly happy with the pancake stack censor I used on this one. I put so much effort into making that stack big enough to cover everything up. I copy/pasted two sections of stack, tilted them, blended them, and then still had to stretch the final image to completely cover up Mr. Happy behind there while still leaving her hand in the shot to sort of convey what was going on. I damn near went to the effort of having her fingers curl around the stack, but decided I'd already spent way too much time on something that was only going to be public until the next story gets released.

"Her Cut to the Chase" is slowly creeping up there. Surprisingly, the quickie "Overheard" has already joined the 20k club. It will hit the listings the next time I decide to run the numbers.

As I posted in my most recent blog, if you favorite a story, please consider casting a 5 vote as well. All those potential 5s can do a lot to reduce the influence of the 4s ( and recently, a lot of 2s and 3s ) that pop up on stories and kill their visibility.

Just noticed that Nude Holly Day is less than 5k from becoming my second Legendary story, so why not give it a read and push it a wee bit closer!

By way of promotion, I'll post some feedback that someone sent to the website, which an admin then passed on to me.

1. The story, Nude-Holly-Day, by Reject Reality was one of the most enjoyable, intense, well crafted, and even instructive stories I've ever encountered. While the biology-based eroticism is excellent in most of your stories, this one (Holly) was far beyond that. The Holly story was to regular good stories as color is to black-and-white because of the added layers in the story.
a. Honor and decency. The protagonist portrayed the best characteristics of respect and appreciation for the Holly character.
b. The caring he showed Holly added depth to the story far beyond the delightful eroticism.
c. The honor and care showed for the Holly character by the protagonist put this story into the top level of literature.
d. The details of the physical love-making functioned almost as a lesson for top-level love-making. Society would profit from this sort of story being made to be required reading for all high-schoolers.
