I find clicking on the cog, and then profile, a little clumsy.
Should we add a new icon in the header to go directly to your profile?
If yes, suggestions for the look of it are welcome.

Yes. Navigating with my android can be a pain. I've set aside page icons on my phone to go directly to pages I visit often. I think this would be a good improvement

It really wouldn't add much to my own experience, personally. My profile is set as my homepage, and I always leave 2 tabs open for my profile and for the main page of the forum; then I venture elsewhere on the site by opening new tabs.
I'd probably never click on that 'profile' icon. But yeah, other people might enjoy it and it wouldn't be a nuisance at all either. Go for it!

I think for the profile button, shrinking down someone's avatar is probably the obvious thing to do.
The "Chat" text link should be speech bubbles I think, that would take up less space, and is universally recognised.

Why not just swap the link to one's profile with the one to the 'Update your details' page and just change the icon accordingly instead of adding an extra icon to the main navigation bar? All the items in the dropdown menu are related to the member's profile and, correct if I'm wrong, not many members update their details on a daily basis.

sounds good. I'm new and use my iPad. The existing icons are so small I keep hitting wrong ones. A shrunk avatar might be good. I'm still trying to find out how to post a gif in the forum or avatar.

During the stints that my laptop was down (dead) and I was forced to use my tablet to even check out my PMs or see the awesome comments people post on my page, navigating the gear without ending up on the settings page was a pain. I really don't care what the icon looks like, I just want an easier to get my profile page... especially when I'm on a mobile device (cell phone, tablet, etc.) I do agree that using a mini image of our avatar would be a perfect way for us to go straight to our page. Similar to how it looks when you comment or reply to a comment (either one would work.)
Having multiple tabs open on a tablet can be a pain in the butt and is often more work than necessary. Now, on my laptop... I have no problem with a few extra tabs. Though, I'm not as cool as SP, but then... who is.
