Funny story there. Adult cats communicate on a frequency humans are not capable of hearing. They only meow and make more audible sounds when communicating with kittens whose ears are still developing.

Humans, on the other hand, cannot hear when a cat is trying to signal us, so they have evolved to develop meows, purrs and sounds that we can hear so as to communicate with us. Basically, we're extra-deaf kittens.
