Maybe Rowl, from The Aeronaut's Windlass. Realistically I identify with most of the lead characters in my own stories no matter how hard I try write them with variety.
Garp, from The World Acccording to Garp. Not admire as much as identify with. We have a lot in common, good and bad. What a great book.
Honorable mentions:
Alice, from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
Godzilla
Bugs Bunny
Good question.... so much so I can't give just one answer. Sir Able in Gene Wolfe's Wizard Knight series. Who doesn't want to be a hero? Herman Hesse's Siddhartha; we all want peace and harmony; Augustus McCrae in Larry McMurty's Lonesome Dove, a man who lived life to the hilt. Endless others...
Jean Grey / Phoenix in the X-Men
Grace Trevethyn (Saving Grace) and Grace Hanadarko (Saving Grace)
I've always identified with sidekicks for some reason. The Robins and Ron Weasleys of the world. As a kid, I always preferred Knuckles the Echidna to Sonic the Hedgehog and Ultra Magnus over Optimus Prime.
As far as characters I admire, there's loads. But I'm going to list a few that are off the beaten track.
The Rock (WWE 1999-2002)
'Stone Cold' Steve Austin (WWE 1997-2001)
Mark Anthony (Julius Caesar)
Beatrice (Much Ado About Nothing)
Quote by Freddie Mercury
My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies
Fairy tales of yesterday grow and never die
I can fly
The show must go on.
Jean-Luc Picard of the Federation Starship Enterprise.
Anne of Green Gables. My favorite books growing up
It has varied over time, I think, so there are many.
Batman was an early one (the Adam West version, though I now prefer Batman : The Animated Series).
Luke, Obi-wan (both Alec and Ewan), and Yoda from Star Wars
Abraham Van Helsing from Dracula
Sherlock Holmes (I'm more of a Watson so definitely an "admire" on this one)
Hard to pin down any current ones since I haven't been watching/reading much fictional media, though some of these would still hold true.
Orlando, from Virginia Woolf's novel of the same name.
I admire Poe's Raven. I think there is sensuality in dark. It was the bird that made his words flow. I am no Poe but I feel his ghost in my veins...pulsing.
Hagrid. Hair appt next Friday
Holden Caulfield. Because you all are Phonies!!!
I’ve always been more of a Jack than a Ralph.
Nancy Botwin from Weeds (identify with, not admire)
