I just watched a video (below) this morning - recounting this particular incident (and others occurring, nationwide). This is one reason I don't have a Harris/Walz sign in my front or side yards.
I and another person about 6 houses to the South of me are the only 'known' Democrats within two blocks and I know he and his wife are, as they have signs in their yard boosting the Dem candidates nationwide & for Missouri, this year.
I knocked on their door late one afternoon a few days ago to ask him where he got the signage and confirmed to him that I approved and who I was, his long time neighbor down the street, etc. He said he recognized my name, and his wife asked if I was related to the Trump supporter about a block away from them and I replied that I was almost ashamed to admit that I was, indeed. Their kids went to school with my brother's kids and that's how they knew of my last name.
He advised me that he had almost regretted putting up the signs in his yard.
He next told me, that almost every morning for the last 2 weeks he has to go out and collect empty beer cans, liquor bottles and other assorted trash from his front yard. Thrown there by sub-humans for Trump. There are so many Trump and 'Take Back America Again' signs littering the yards and roadway intersections around this town - it is uncomfortable to realize how outnumbered I am - should violence actually break out after the election in November. It is intimidating.
My parents were respected and well liked and had lived in this town since the late 50s. My mother won seven elections as a Democrat for a county office between 1974 and 2002 when she finally retired, serving 32 years in her capacity, last having a Republican squaring off against her in 1982. I did the whole campaining thing, driving around, asking permission to put up candidate signs - then later driving around to collect signage after the elections - thank people for their votes, etc. I did that (with my brothers helping too) many times in the 80s and 90s. My neighbors with the Harris/Walz signage only moved here to this town in 2005 and knew none of that family history.
Until recently, many of my neighbors also knew I had my aged father living with me the last several years and I was his care-giver. I think because of that we didn't catch many dirty looks nor did I have crap thrown in our yards.
Because my brothers and their clans are vocal Trump supporters (while also pretending to be Born Again Xtians) - I think my father and I were also somewhat protected a bit by what reputation my siblings had built up in this small town the last 30 years (population >5500) and by Trump supporters not wanting to test the waters of our property as my siblings and their kids are proudly crazy - so by association, I might be batshit nuts myself and also armed to the teeth. As to count one, I feel like one of maybe a dozen sane people in town and on count two - I've got my bases covered - just in case.
Some shitbird farmed some of my property, with his diesel spewing 4x4 Dodge Ram one evening back in May, when I was at a hospital visting my father. I didn't see it occur, but there was evidence on the street (black marks of the street ripped up) by two sets of tires which originated in front of a house where the occupant has four Trump 2024 type of signs in his front yard. The tire tracks extended about 50 feet North from the neighbors driveway, then went around a turn to the East and it was at that point you could see the truck either got away from the driver, or he purposely drifted sideways & then accelerated again and drove through my property to rip up some sod - which he did for about 100 more feet before he eased off the accelerator and climbed back onto the normally quiet street.
I have a pretty good idea who it was, but he's a 25 year old...6'6" 300 pound concrete worker who could probably break me in half and not raise a sweat. His truck is plastered with a dozen vulgar Trump bumperstickers. Fucking cretin narrowly missed slamming his $60,000 truck into a 60 year old, 4 foot diameter burr oak tree trunk.
My father passed on in July and many evenings this summer - I'm watching people drive slowly (speed limit 15mph) by my house and property, most of them eyeballing me weirdly and very few returning my attempts at waving and smiling. I don't know who these fux are and there is little reason for strange vehicles and ATVs to drive on this street unless a person actually lives in one of the 30 some odd neighborhood houses. It's just a horseshoe shaped, chip and seal - rural small town street. Other neighbors have suffered stolen trailers, grills and even a swing set from this street in front of my house over the last few years - so people just driving by and not even waving back - is a bit concerning. It feels like they are casing the joint. My father had a wood splitter on wheels, a car dolly and his bass boat on a trailer out in the open pasture next to his house. I've an ATV, my boat and trailer in my side yard. Since none of this equipment is plastered with vulgar Trump bumper stickers - I feel they are definitely targets of opportunity.
Prior to 1998, this town and county were predominanty Democrat leaning. Now it's predominantly inhabited by ICK. I vote in person and I'm curious what that voting precinct circus will look like on Tuesday, November 5th.
