Outside competition stories, I'm working through my "Cash in Hand 2" stories. I planned to be doing just that until deep into 2027, when the series will come to an end. Note: In this series, every chapter is a self-contained story within the longer, overall story. It's designed to be that way, so members here could read just a chapter, though it seems many read way more than one chapter. 😊

Now the real reason I have posted here. The latest published story part has my all-time favourite cover.

I have a free weekend, so I'm doing a little writing, as well as catching up on reading the competition stories. I still have around twenty more to read! Nothing much more going on here, other than it is hot again. I never thought I'd get to say this living in the UK, but we really could do with a drop of rain! 😳

I have currently read, liked and commented on 38 of the competition stories (there are over 50 atm) and can concur that the standard is exceptionally high. I don't envy the judges. I thought I'd drop in and let you all know that our youngest daughter's wedding went well on Tuesday. It was held at the local Registry Office with just 12 guests (with the twins on the way, it was arranged quickly), and the reception was back at our house, where we had a BBQ. The weather was perfect, and it turned out to be a great day. 😊😎

Working up from the bottom of the list, I am currently reading, liking and commenting on all the competition stories, 'paddlingincognitos' being next. I have read 33 so far! There are some stellar entries. 😈 Also, I am doing a little writing, with emphasis on the little, the first in almost two weeks! 😳

Happy place? I'm pretty much happy all the time (my wife might not agree), so no one place!

I have just dropped in whilst sitting in a tent in Kent having had a nice time over the weekend catching up with friends. Packing up later to drive home, our youngest daughter gets married tomorrow. 😀

Ape, you need to do what is best for you, but I can tell you at 63 that I don’t miss work at all. I love been retired, like Kat’s husband I was an engineer. I owned an engineering company, sold it a 54, stopped running it at 55 and became a consultant, then stepped fully away at 57. I would suggest consultancy is a good half way house between full retirement and working if you can get it.

I will be taking a 2-week break from writing and LushStories starting Tuesday. I'm still hobbling with sciatica, but as my wife agreed to put the tent up on her own 😳, so we're off camping for a week. Then it's my youngest daughter's wedding, I have two this year. I got to walk her up the aisle; I guess I will be limping. 🙄🤣

First, good to hear you are getting better, Kimmi. Yes, pneumonia is nasty, my soon-to-be son-in-law ended up in hospital last year with it, and he is fit, normally healthy, and was then only 28! He is okay now, though, so do look after yourself, Kimmi. 😊❤️

As to other important things, 8 pm BST, Wednesday evening, Atlanta, England V Argentina... Hopefully, you will all give the 3 Lions a roar and get behind them. Argentina have won it enough times! 😳😎😈

As for comp stories, I do have one started, not sure yet if I will finish it... I am planning to take two weeks away from Lush Stories at the end of July... Holiday/youngest daughter (the pregnant one) is getting married.

As for being on the Hot 10 authors' list... I won't be there long; no more stories planned for this month. 😈🤣

In the past, I have always written both sides of a telephone conversation, but in this case, I feel hearing one side works better. The boyfriend, Hugh, is watching on; his actions of hearing only half the words spoken are an important addition.

I will be revisiting the scene later today, and I will take with me what you have mentioned.

I have a scene in a story where I only want the reader to hear one end of a telephone conversation. With regard to grammar and format, what is the acceptable way to write it?

The setting: The wife phones her husband. We hear what she says. We don't hear the husband's end of the conversation; that is left to the readers' imagination. Her boyfriend is standing next to the wife; he is listening to her and observing her.

Atm: I have everything written in standard text format, except for what she says on the phone. That is in italics. Is that acceptable?

Example below:

“Hi John…

Hugh could only hear Janet’s side of the conversation.

“Yes, I am at Hugh's house, and as you can hear, the phone works. There is a strong signal.

“I was surprised to…

“I’m standing naked in the kitchen… Yes, anyone could see in." Janet giggled, “But you like it when I flaunt my body…"

Janet glanced out of the window, causing Hugh to do the same. The gardeners were still there.

Today is the last day of my lengthy vacation. A couple of days in Atlanta, then 2 weeks on Mackinac Island, followed by a long weekend in Ontario, were all amazing for the soul. But yesterday we arrived in Tennessee, and I'm blown away by the view from our "glamping" geodome. Hubby had to do some work this morning, so I thought I'd pop in to say hi. Heading home tomorrow and then back to reality. But when reality includes a beach, it's hard to complain.
