how many of you are fans of the incubus/succubus variety of supernatural stories?
I've only dabbled in Supernatural stuff a couple times and didn't go that route (one features a gay satyr and the other is an imaginary world fantasy about a monstrous wood nymph thing). Seems to be an obvious one for erotic supernatural fiction but maybe too obvious? I suspect there's no shortage of erotic succubus/incubus fiction so you'd probably have to do something really interesting or novel to stand out.
While I love a good science fiction story, I do have to admit that the genre of supernatural and vampire type stories don’t appeal to me. I can certainly appreciate the amount of work and thought an author would have to spend to create such stories, however, my personal preferences are more along the line of StarTrek/Star Wars type of tales. Sorry.
If you're feeling bored during this Covid-19 epidemic I’d like to suggest
you take a peek at a story I collaborated with SueBrasil, a brilliant author.
It's about a mistake in judgment a lady makes concerning a friend, based
on the hurtful words of someone that only thinks of himself. Will that
conniving person succeed in ruining a beautiful friendship, or will she see
through his lies? It's gradually creeping up towards the 30,000 mark
and we’d love any votes or hearing whatever comments you may wish
to make. It is listed in my profile under ‘FAVOURITES’ as Apologize.

The readership for Sci-Fi & Fantasy/Supernatural is probably the lowest of anything on the site. Getting up to 5 votes is typical. Breaking 10 is good. Going higher than that is rare as hell.

The diminishing returns on multi-part stories makes posting those in these categories more or less not worth the effort. By the time you get to a third or fourth installment, you'll be lucky to get 1 or 2 votes. The 10k per submission limit means that you have to split up longer stories, and that has exactly the same diminishing returns as chapters.

Post them if you're proud of them, because there will be a few lonely souls who will enjoy them, but don't expect much in the way of readership.

I'm a fan of s-f and fantasy, but erotic s-f and fantasy don't really appeal to me much more than any other erotica. In the end, I read these types of fiction to stimulate and explore my imagination not my libido. I have a partly finished s-f story sitting in my work folder and I'm increasingly thinking I'm done with it, at least as an entry for here. I'd rather focus on the s-f aspects than the sex so maybe it will turn up on the blue site eventually.
Wait, some of the Lush authors are supernatural?

There's a few I certainly wonder about.bEmdUbj8cBc8GwRN
And that's why they don't do particularly well here. That's common on all story sites. You get comments all the time about skimming the sex to get back to the story. They like long stories with lots of world building. World building takes words, and once you hit 10k of them, you have to split your story. Once you split it, you lose a huge chunk of the readership beyond the core category readers.

The Lush readership tilts too much toward short/sex heavy for the type of story Sci-Fi & Fantasy readers actually crave to perform. Thus, few get posted. Thus, people don't look here for them. Vicious circle and all that.

My one and only recommended read is the finale of one of my supernatural series on here. I love that genre, personally. And succubus/incubus stories are fun, but are very often... predictable. But hey, always up for someone's to mix things up!
I've got 5 RRs for Fantasy/Supernatural, and they don't do much to improve the numbers of a story LOL

I have one Milf story with as many views/votes as all of my fantasy work combined.

This is very true. With the exception of one sci-fi story, most of my works in that, supernatural and history garner little attention. It is unfortunate because those are areas I enjoy writing. They allow great opportunities for story developement beyond the erotic. The fact is, they are vastly underead, to the point where it’s hardly worth the effort.

The Wild Girl anthology need not be read in any order but does take place in the following timeframe

Wild at Heart- 1968. The story of Dani’s Great Aunt Evie.

Wild Oats. Part 1&2. -2021. Dani is 16 and sets her sights on her stepfather.

Wild Child. 2025. Dani is now 20 years old.

I just started a follow-up to Serpentine Destiny called Feather and Scale. Moving from weird serpentine Lamia sex to weird Harpy sex. LOL

Fantasy is my main, preferred genre, so I'm not going to stop writing them, even if they mostly get ignored here.

I love writing supernatural erotica.

My book, which comes in at some ridiculous word count, is supernatural with a lot of world building. I have more than half of a incubus/succubus novel written that stalled out on me. I even know how I intended to end it but never got there.

I like supernatural short stories, as well, but haven't written many for Lush. Reader tastes seem to be for the realistic. That being said, if I don't get sidetracked, I think my next submission is likely to be supernatural.
I wrote one called The Study. Yeah, it was long, but it got 6 votes which I guess means it was relatively successful. Still... It was probably the most fun story to write, and therefore one of my favourites despite the lack of attention from readers.

Don't believe everything that you read.

Some really good points and I did write a long supernatural story - The Last Bookshop and I was honoured to receive an outstanding series award for it. I have written a Succubus story too, couldn't really nail it but had a try.

Is it going to get lots of reads? Nope but I did it for myself and to add to the canon which I feel is under served here. I had some great encouragement, and made new friends along the way.

I was walking down a street in London and the idea just whacked me right in the face. I walked past the bookshop, had a light bulb moment, then double-backed and went in. The description in the opening chapter is bang on what I felt.

It became the easiest story I ever wrote. I learned quickly there has to be a lot of scene setting, plot, explanation and the hard part - credibility. The temptation to insert a deus-ex moment is huge.

The readership isn't massive, I think I got about 20 votes for the first part and then a loyal readership who stuck with it to the end.

My advice, do it for yourself and don't kid yourself it will get a lot of reads.

You make the point that these types of stories are very under read and I have no doubt they are, especially when you compare this category to some of the more popular ones. Because of this, you said, ‘it’s hardly worth the effort.’ I’ve often heard some of the more experienced authors advise new writers to write what you know and enjoy. You say you have fun writing this type of story, and after reading many of your submissions in various categories, I can see why you would, because you do seem to like building worlds for your characters. Since creating this type of tale brings you a great deal of pleasure, then doesn’t that make it worth the effort?

I can understand why it wouldn’t be worthwhile if you were being paid money for your time and effort, especially if that payment was directly dependent on the number of votes or views. However, if it is pleasure you get, then it seems logical that the more pleasure received, would figuratively speaking, equate to extra dollars.

Supernatural, ghost, etc. are my kink. Unfortunately many readers shun away from it. I find the dark very sensual and erotic.
Actually, I've never written a story with an incubus or a succubus in it. I have, however, written an erotic poem called "I, Incubus" with 2030 views and another erotic poem called "Succubus Mine" with 2338 views. The succubus poem earned an RR.
For me, the effort to write and the effort to post it here are two different things.

Sci-Fi & Fantasy languishes here. The reward of votes and comments typically isn't worth the effort to submit. The places where I post those get pitiful readership for short stories. ( 4k words or less ) Here, they thrive. So those short stories end up being exclusive to here, because it's not worth the effort to post them elsewhere. Everywhere I post has stories that are exclusive to that site.

Limiting yourself to one venue is limiting your avenues of expression. Even ignoring readership numbers, the content rules are different everywhere. If you truly want to write whatever tickles your fancy, you need a home for whatever your tickle is at any given moment. It's rare for every plot bunny that hops into your head to fit within the boundaries of one venue's rules.

I still drop some fantasy here on occasion. ( mostly to fill categories, or because it's especially short and sex heavy ) I'm not going to spend 5 days posting a 50k word story that I've spent ages developing and writing for 20 total votes and a half dozen comments across all the chapters, though. I can get that elsewhere in fifteen minutes on one chapter. On the flipside, I'm not going to post something like "His Gift" on a site where it's going to be ignored by virtually everybody except trolls who are going to vote 1 and leave a nasty comment longer than the story, when I can get positive feedback here.

Deep down, everybody knows that if they were simply "writing for themselves", they wouldn't be posting here at all. If you're sending your story out into the wild, you're looking for a reward. May as well maximize it, and save yourself the trouble of posting work where it will be all but ignored.

That's actually what I'm currently working on, an ongoing story about demons. Currently it only features a Succubus, but if I manage to retain a decent work ethic, I'll be including other demon types too. Mostly ones I've made up. But I'm sure that's okay.

I don't know why supernatural gets less views, but I think they're super fun as are sci-fi and fantasy. I have a few that are in that genre. Krystalg has a great series too that's Supernatural and another one she's in the middle of in Fantasy. The 10k word one I wrote about periods from hell has 24 votes and 2.5k views after a year of being up, and trust me when I say period sex is not the most popular category on here or anywhere else for that matter.

At the end of the day, views are indicative of popularity of a genre or elements within it, not quality of writing. If you aren't writing to put a roof over your head and food on the table, then I say focus on what you enjoy and work on polishing your craft and the tools at your disposal to paint with words on the page. You'll find the people who appreciate the effort and maybe even take some people out of their comfort zone and down a road they never thought they would enjoy.

Just my two cents. 😊

I love incubus and succubus stories (I had an old girlfriend who believed she'd had sex with both in the past).

Fantasy and sci-fi will always languish here. It's not a knock on the genre, it's just not what folks come here for. Lotsa good f/sf here, from KrystalG to our lovely VV, above. Erotica and f/sf can make for an explosive mix.

The best damn flash I ever wrote is erotic sci-fi, and is here on the site (Comet Q).

Tintinnabulation - first place (Free Spirit)
Comet Q - second place (Quick and Risqué Sex)
Amnesia - third place (Le Noir Erotique)

Incubi, Succubi, and a bunch of other demons besides.
