This question is going to sound more than a little insane, but it's genuine. My story has several songs in it (one of the characters is a singer) can I exclude them from the word limit?

Edit: in case it's not clear, they're original songs written by yours truly for the story.

I have a character idea thus far(for a few days now) but it's just about finding the scenario and catalyst so I can form an ending and get to writing.

A mod will have to comment, but in my mod days, I would have argued that they are still part of the narrative so they count towards the 2K. Else you're getting an unfair advantage since you could embed character or story development into the songs, thereby defeating the purpose of having the limit.

Writing is rewriting. Inspiration only takes you so far. Looking forward to reading it.

Thanks. I can’t even imagine holding a candle to some of the amazingly imaginative stories entered so far. In comparison, mine is a fairly straightforward narrative around finding myself - and others. I’m trying to make up for my lack of originality by cramming a truckload of sex into it. 😀 Plus my trademark alliterations.

Yeah, and it's well worth the read, as are so many others in the competition. I've also got a handful left to read that landed in the last few days. I'll try and stay on top of any others that pile in. Loving the creativity on display, everyone.

I will start reading soon and generally always comment on the ones I read so I will try to remember to post on your wall when I get there. My entry is very, very close to being launched. Probably needs one more pass (meaning two-three given my approach to editing).
