Announcing the winners of our Festive Unexpected competition

This competition produced some really exciting stories, especially seeing as we'd allowed contestants to let their hair down and use the max word count of 10,000 to really make their stories shine.

A massive well done to Jaymal, who takes the top spot and $150 with his fantastic festive fuckery.

The ever-elegant pen of AmuseBouche takes the silver spot and earns $100 for her gorgeous tale.

And WannabeWordsmith takes the bronze and $50 with his raunchy tale. He even managed to find a wee heartstring to tug on at the end.

As always, thank you to everyone who took part. It's so lovely to see the diversity of ideas that these competitions throw up.

I just want to add a personal thanks to our shortlister this time around. Not an easy job, given the number of entries and lack of word limit but they, and all the judges, did a fantastic job of sifting through, scoring, commenting and giving me valuable feedback.

As a Christmas bonus, the remainder of the top ten will each receive 100 lush coins to play with.

I was having a rough holiday season missing Mom, wrote this story to cheer myself up, and tickled pink it was well received! Thank you!!! I had missed the last several comps and enjoyed being a part of it again.

Wowow. Given the field and creativity on display I felt sure my effort would be eclipsed. Staggered that I hit the podium.

Congratulations to my fellow podiumees: stellar storytelling to which I can only aspire. Hats off also to all those that made the cutthroat shortlist, and to anyone who put their work up for consideration. Of the ones I read, many could have been contenders.
