future - I want to find out if Disney and Google DO take over the world.

Actually, in seriousness, I do want to go to the future to see how we deal with the myriad social issues. For example, I have read some recent articles about life extension - scientists are saying that we are on the verge of humans living 200 years or so. What are we as a society going to do about corporations shedding people when they are in their 50's? What will 150 years of retirement look like? Will the government retrain those RIF'd by the corporations? How will we deal with rising healthcare costs? What will technology look like - will humans have chips planted in their brains - what will being on facebook 24/7 look like? Will we ever colonize other planets?

Sorry, I can go on and on, but I'll stop here.

Looking forward is frightening and uncertain, looking back gives me points of reference. I would go back to the early 1980s as I was leaving school and preparing to go to university. There are a ton of decisions that I made then that in retrospect I wish I had done differently. However, that was a happy time, my parents were very relaxed people and while they cared for and guided me they made sure they did not nudge me along the routes their lives had taken. While I am comfortable with myself as menopause takes its toll, the thought of being young, female, and having my life in front of me again is enthralling.

Definitely the past. I don't want to know what lies ahead. It would change how I lived every minute of my life, I think. But the past... I would love to see the world before pollution, before development. I think I would like to see the world before the ice age and see the desert countries of today when they were lush. I would love to see my ancestors and see why I became the person I am today.

I would have liked go back to the 20's. It seemed like a cool time to live, pretty wild too. And the 60's would have been interesting too. Of course future could be great but could be awful too, its not like as fucked up as the world is I am that optimistic about it.

The future, but not a measly few decades. I would like to see 500 or 1000 years out. My grandfather was born before men flew in machines for the first time; he died after men walked on the moon for the first time. The accelerating rate of change in everything means that 2515 is going to be unimaginably strange, and 3015 is a foreign land. Sounds like fun.
