This competition surpassed all my expectations in terms of the number and quality of entries, and the banter. It was quite brilliant! PING especially - you're a shocker!

A huge thank you to everyone who entered and made it such an exquisite fun experience. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

So, who was the most notorious? The winner, with the second (joint) highest number of votes at 154, was browncoffee's "Going Higher".

For those interested in the numbers, the most voted on entry was Vanessa's "Prom Slut" with 163 votes:

The winner: Going Higher, by browncoffee

Congratulations to the runners up:

A new competition will be announced shortly.

P.S. I mistakenly put the 4th May as the end date, but it was always meant to be the end of April. Sorry!

Moan Jett and I learned how not to win a competition. We're new at this and failed to read the bold print. If anyone would still like to read a disqualified entry it's called, "Play Me Like a Lady" in the Flash Erotica section. We apologize for our mistake and good luck to all the contestants.

Rocket

I hope your heart isn't too black following this experience (great username!).

Best of luck with the story. I look forward to reading it once the competition is out the way.

Not long until the winner is announced!
After that post Ping, you're now strangely finding yourself in last place. I don't know how that happened!

Go to the "Flash Erotica" category, via the link in the left-hand column on the Lush home page.

There are 4 tabs at the top of the story list. Click on Popular. That will sort the stories in order of average score and then the number of votes they have received. The default is "all time" but if you click on the "This month" option which is now available under the words Flash Erotica, that filters out anything online before April.

You still can't see the actual average score for comp entries. But because there are a few non-comp stories in there too, you can see whereabouts your story sits by seeing what scores are above and below yours. So if you're just below a story with a score of 4.79, yours must be around that too.

Of course, this only works because the comp began at the start of April. Once May comes it won't be so helpful.

This will give you a rough idea, but won't help you get an accurate picture.

It's not based on average score alone. There's a weighting applied to incorporate the number of votes attained too. Hence the "Notorious" competition title

Please could take a moment of their time read my story. To my horror this morning I woke I discovered that my story had gone missing. So I checked my stories to see if had been hidden but i discovered that it wasn’t there. So must have assumed that when I was on my phone last night when I was on lush that when I was rather sleepy at the time I must have accidentally deleted my story by mistake. So before i resubmitted the story I checked with lush admin with the wonderful help of Curvygalore to see if was aloud to resubmit the story again to the competition to which they gave the go ahead. Being as i am a very honest person I didn’t want to be seen as trying cheat in the competition. Hope you all will take the time to read and help get its vote count back up again

Thanks Roger

Once a story or any data in fact has been deleted, it's not recoverable I'm afraid. That includes accounts.

Good luck in the competition.

Am I the only one who was put off by all the hype and never watched a single minute of the show?

Should I?
Hi Charlotte,

Please see this thread: https://forum.lushstories.com/yaf_postst69357_Sudden-Lush-Email.aspx

It's not spam or phishing. It's generated by the mobile site automatically.

When accounts from here were imported into the mobile platform at the start of the year, they weren't set up with the "receive site emails" set to no by default.

You can log in to the mobile site using the same UN / PW as you do on desktop, and turn off all those. I'm unable to do that for you I'm afraid, as it's account related.

Apologies for any inconvenience.

Nicola

Okay, that makes sense. Thank you very much.

Normally, and depending on the number of entries, a Senior Story Mod or two, will go through (or help me to go through) and read every entry in a competition, not even knowing what the scores were.

We then select a shortlist of 10 which go to the judges.

This competition is unusual by design, and part of it is aimed at showing authors how difficult it is to run and judge a competition professionally.

Leaving competitions to the highest average score only as the winning criteria is not only lazy, but I believe insulting to writers who've spent a great deal of time on conceiving, crafting and proofreading their entries (and who might not have many friends or know how to market themselves). Other sites may choose to take the easy "primarily a popularity contest" route. I've always refused to.

This competition has been seen by 99% of our community as a bit of fun. It has introduced a lot more interaction and playfulness than our usual competition format.

I'm really enjoying the banter, as are many others judging by my inbox!
For our next competition along these lines, I'll thinking of encouraging as much foul play as possible.

A free-for-all competition where chaos ensues. Dirty tricks, slur campaigns, vote bombing, slagging off stories in comment areas etc.., all actively encouraged.

I think it will be great for morale and lift us to a higher level!

What should we title it, "Dirty Tricks"? "Foul Play"? "Whatever it takes"?
Quote by GraceW

So if I have this right:

I have read and voted on every story so far. My votes are honest, mostly 5s because the standard of writing is quite high. One entry I felt warranted a mere 2, and there was a smattering of 3s and 4s. Because I am a competitor these lower votes will not count for the competition scores but will of course still count post-comp.

I don't want to divulge too much as some people might get ideas how to game the system. Put it this way, if I know someone has a history of down voting competitors' stories in past competitions, I usually pull all their votes. If it's their first time voting and I see lots of lowish votes, I pull all their scores.

For ordinarily trusted members with competition entries, I mostly leave their scores alone unless there are a few obvious scores way below what I'm seeing from other members. In which case I pull their scores totally as they then go into the untrusted pile.

Pulled votes don't come back when the competitions end. They remain deleted from the database.

Quote by GraceW
Had I no horse in this race all my votes would affect the competition scores. Yes? No? Maybe?

Correct. Mostly.

If I noticed you had repeatedly scored 1's and 2's on stories in the competition, I would assume that you had an ulterior motive and the low votes would most likely be removed. Very few stories accepted here ever justify a 1 score, so if you'd voted a few of those, I'd suspect something was up.

Again, it's really a matter of me looking at the story score distribution from the whole data set for each story, and votes made by someone across other stories, and making individual judgement calls.

Thankfully our writers and membership almost all play fair, so none of this really matters in the greater scheme of things!
To clarify a few private questions I've received, publicly:

Contestant badges have already been done, as have the 1st to 3rd badges.

As per all competitions, the best stories regardless of # votes, may get an EP. Having read a few, I am already certain quite a few will get RR's.

There's only one cash prize.

Have fun!

Of course....I absolutely know that any 1's given to me will stay.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Mysteria

100% wrong.

You clearly didn't understand Liz's explanation, nor mine.

I just went through your scores out of curiosity. Of all the < 5 scores (19 of them), two were from competitors. I have removed them.

I do this for every competition.

If it were possible to code it in such a way, I wouldn't allow competitors to vote on each other's stories at all. It's too easy to vote a whole bunch down.

But it has to be a manual process, so Gav has coded it so that I can see the score on every story published here, and the person who scored it.

For this competition and every other I've ever ran, I do this after the deadline day has passed.

It takes me the best part of a day typically to do this for every single story entry (a very laborious and dull process).

Which is why I only do it once usually (believe it or not, I have better things to do with my time) at the end.

So in summary, trying to accurately keep track of who's scored what and where you stand, will be pretty much impossible and a fruitless exercise.

Good luck!
So a "Save Draft" button added to the PM editor, or even an autosave every few minutes?

Gav would need to create a new "Drafts" folder, but I don't see it being too difficult to add in.

I'm sure if you sent him a link to this post, he'd take a look when he gets a chance.
Did anyone else wake up today and wonder where Tuesday to Thursday went?
It's not just about the number of votes. It's about the average score you're receiving too.

This is both a marketing and writing contest!

Yeah, something like that.

As inept as ever, the UK govt.

If it weren't for my parents, I'd seriously be considering a Nexit right now.

lol Only if you promise to vote and I'll want it in writing. smile

It'a deal!
Quote by AliceDee
Can we offer bribes? Like sending nudes to anyone who votes for a story? lol

Can you send me some evaluation clips for good measure? Liz will evaluate their hotness...
As you guys know, I always comb through all the final standings removing all the obvious low score bombing (I know who you are), and think it's the right thing to do for this one too.

Otherwise the competition will become meaningless in writing ability terms.

Play nicely!
Quote by Milik_the_Red

That would be frighteningly apropos for a notorious competition.

?‍♂️ Muahah

Precisely!

I was mulling with the idea of naming it "Infamous". It was a close call. Both are very apt for the theme.
Quote by Ping

Great point.

Will the scores be hidden until the deadline?

Do they need to be? Possibly.

Admin usually scrutinizes the votes/scoring prior to making them public. I suspect this will happen again, so a ‘real-time’ leaderboard is probably not going to happen. But I could be wrong.

Not knowing the numbers until the results does add some intrigue.

Yes, the competitions are set up so votes and scores are hidden by default. That won't change.

Good point about the low score bombing. I usually spend a good few hours each competition removing votes from a) Competitors b) Friends of entrants voting stories down etc..

I could just leave it to be a massive free-for-all where dirty tricks come into play too ...
Quote by jaded_buddha
This is a great idea.

Since winning is based on scores/votes this time, it'd be cool to see a "real-time" leaderboard. And by "real-time" I guess I mean occasionally-but-regularly updated. No idea how hard that would be to automate.

Fun idea!

When we get a few entries in, I'll see if the reporting tool can pull the data. I don't see any reason it can't. I don't think it's connected to the deadline date in any way, so it should work.

Will keep you posted!
Quote by RumpleForeskin
So you're saying this should be autobiographical flash? ;)

Sure! How famous are you outside of Rumplations?

Actually, come to think of it, you're 1200 pages deep at the Rumplations Honky Tonk and Cyber Bar. That's an awful lot of people to lend your entry support!

Game on ladies and gentlemen!
Notorious Competition

This competition is a little more light-hearted than our usual competitions.

Akin to our infamous "Attention Whore" site competition, we want to encourage as many members to participate as possible. Stories should be short and sweet (well, downright dirty preferred!), and submitted to our "Flash Erotica" Category - 1000 words or less.

Our "Notorious" competition is all about getting noticed.

Unlike our normal competitions, stories will not be judged by "official" judges. Membership will get to pick the winner (based on a combination of highest average score / largest number of votes).

It's therefore important that writers do as much campaigning as time allows, both on and off site.

Competition Theme

The theme is based around notoriety. Notorious; "well-known; publicly discussed", but more typically, "widely but unfavorably known or talked about."

Is your main character a famous personality, a politician, rock or sports star? A well-known womaniser? A clubbing cougar?

(Please note, for legal reasons we do not allow Fan Fiction pieces)

We are offering one prize of $150 to the winner.

Question: there's an option on the mobile site to cancel your account? Does that only remove it from mobile (which I want) or would it trigger a delete here (which I do not)?

Hi,

It should only remove your account from desktop, but please don't do it until we're 100% sure!

I'll ask Gav to take a look. I am fairly certain it won't delete your desktop account as it was more of an import process and hasn't been fully synchronised yet.
