For better or worse, I've thrown my slightly warped humour into the ring for this competition. The opening line kinda sets the tone, and if you think being thrown at someone's feet on a tropical island makes instant sparks fly, you've never read one of my stories before, haha.
Hopefully this one makes you smile, as well as aroused...

I'm set on historical for this comp. This week, I gave up on an idea that wasn't working... On a remote pacific island, Takeshi claimed to have continued fighting World War 2 for Japan until the 1970s out of loyalty to the Empire. His many wives saw it differently...
So, we're off to the 19th century and the history of scientific discovery is about to be rewritten!

Sounds intriguing ...

Greetings all. I thought I too would get on the self-promotion band wagon and promote my entry, A Crown Of Lilies.
Just over a week in, I've had some lovely comments:
"I'm a romantic at heart and this was beautifully written." - Marisa
"You always write beautiful stories and this was no exception." - Naughty007
And from our own gorgeous Kimmi:
"Wonderful storytelling Piquet." - KimmiBeGood
I'm living proof of the old adage, 'You can take the boy out of the Mediterranean, but you can't take the Mediterranean out of the boy', but you'll just have to read the story to find out what happens. Many thanks all.
Hello Everyone, this is my first humble attempt at any competition. This story is about Archeology, Ancient Indian History and Kamasutra! Thank you for giving me the opportunity! 😊
Well, for better or worse, I got it down to *just* under 4000 words. To be honest, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, it was just a challenge for a new writer (this was my first shot at writing fiction!) to write with restraint, but maybe that's a good skill to learn early
Here it is, all feedback is welcomed...I say this sincerely, as someone who is dipping his toes into writing fiction for the first time I do want to hear what people think worked, and what didn't. I won't be offended by constructive feedback - I want it :)
Edit: I spotted a couple of little mistakes and had to re-submit it after making the corrections, I'm not sure if the link above will still be correct once the edits are approved. I'll update it ASAP if needed.

The final URL remains the same after publication. The story is just pulled temporarily off the site while the changes are being moderated. All sorted for you now. An excellent story.

I have a two part story about an island I wrote a few weeks ago but it needs the third part to be complete. I have never entered a competition and haven’t a clue technically how I would do the consolidation. Also my writing is frequently odd and usually poorly written.

Competiton entries have to be standalone stories. If the story is previously published in any form, or is a continuation of an already-published work, it is not admissable in the competition.
But as long as it's not actually been published, you can carry on writing it and submit it as a single piece, as long as it meets the brief and is entirely under the word limit.

You can use the same place, an even have old characters featuring in the story, but it must be completely independent.
Curiosity is one of those insatiable passions that grow by gratification.
I had hard time trimming down to the 4000 word limit but I think the story is better for it. Do I get points for originality with telepathic mermen rather than mermaids? The guys were inspired a bit by The Pisces. Apologies to the mods for recalling it a few times to fix typos.
A bit late, but I made it into the competition. 🙄😊 If you want to read a "slightly" different take on the competition theme, why not give my story a whirl? 😕😜 Euphoria Island | Lush Stories
Now I'm off to read and comment on all the other competition entries. 😳
I’m seeking a rule clarification as I get my submission ready. Of course stories must be fully self-contained and not just one chapter of a longer series, though they may reference recurring characters from other stories.
In another competition not too long ago (maybe Whodunnit?) there was a forum discussion about this, and it sounded like if the above rule were followed, it would be okay to use the “Series” feature to link a competition story with others that share characters. Is that correct?
Yes, as long as it's not chapter N of an established series, you can link it if it's related by characters, world or concept. Only once the results are announced can you make any further chapterisation.

After struggling to write while dealing with the sinus infection that seems to have taken up permanent residence in my head, I managed to write a 5,000 word story. And then promptly realized the limit was 4,000 words. 🙀
Somehow I managed to trim it down and still leave what I felt was a story worth sharing. I hope y’all agree.
Published! Crossing Boundaries in the Boundary Waters. For what it’s worth, Seeker4 (and I’ll be reading your story soon), while my setting is not Isle Royale after all, it IS a place on the Canadian Shield populated by moose and wolves.
By the way, I elected not to use the series feature at this time. I’ll add it to my Contagion series after results are announced.
Now, since I haven’t read many of my fellow writers’ submissions yet, it’s time to pause my writing and get reading!
I submitted my first entry. I'm realistic enough to know Im not in the same League as the great authors here, but I wanted to challenge myself. Some of the stories are fabulous. I opted for a non-tropical theme. My homeland of Scotland. I do hope you try it. I welcome feedback in order to improve. Good Luck Everyone🏴
Call of the Hebrides may have you visiting this beautiful part of the world.
Ugh, now that I’ve published my story, I wish I’d done a James Bond/Austin Powers style spoof set on the proverbial volcanic-island villain lair. Perfect for my recurring Joe Dick character, too. Why am I just thinking of this now? Oh well.
Quote by Shyexhibitionist I opted for a non-tropical theme.
Quote by Seeker4 Nothing in the comp description said it had to be tropical, did it? 😊
Well, this is proving a popular competition, isn't it. Somehow, I have finally managed to put an entry together. I'm 76th (right behind CarltonStJames, which is not the first time lol 🤣) on the list with 5 days to go.
Tropical? Um, no.
Marooned? Nope.
Penguins? Could be... (but it's not Madagascar).
I opted for something a little different. I hope it works, and I hope some of you enjoy it 😊.
Finally got my entry in, which is also my 100th publication!
Fucked In The Head came to me one late night after being stuck. Jotted notes into my phone before falling asleep that night(didn't trust I would remember the idea in the morning).
Lol, me and TheShyThespian submitting close together again 🤣. We both sure like cutting it close and taking our time.
