No, not even close. Life wouldn't be much of an adventure if everything worked out as planned. I've had some amazingly great expriences and some low times. I guess you can't have one without the other.

It's truly much, much better than I could have ever imagined!

I had so many dreams dashed so often when I was younger, that I gave up having expectations. I don't mind most of where and who I am today, but I would have liked to have had the chance for some do-overs.

When I look back on it, my problem was I had no clue what I wanted to do. It was frustrating to me because my family stressed that without a plan you are doomed to mediocracy. My friends were headed off to major universities and professional careers while I was content to just be playing basketball at the local JC. I was letting life dictate my future for me. Well the road was varied and without design but I wouldn't do it any other way. I received a basketball scholarship to a major university and earned a bachelors degree in architectural design. I was also ROTC and went into the army. I Became a helicopter pilot and flew a gunship in the gulf war. Then I was wounded and returned to civilian life to start my own manufacturing corporation. Was fortunate to marry and have a wonderful son. Then sold my business and retired at fifty. My life was a roller coaster but wouldn't change a thing.

I have digressed and need to answer the question. It was, Did your life turn out as expected? My answer is no. I had no expectations.

I don't think it ever mattered what my dreams or aspirations were. My dad had my whole life planned out from the day I was born. No matter how much I rebelled or tried to go my own way, he managed to maneuver me right back into taking over the family business. My older sister escaped her fate by running away, so it fell to either me or my twin sister.

Yes and no. Great wife - never cheated (great sex for 30+ years and on going), proud of kids and saw the world.

This is hard to answer. Most of the time I was trying to survive in some shape or form. (Not necessarily financially.)

I wanted to work with animals, be a teacher or a limo driver to the stars when I was a kid.

Yes it did.

I knew I would be successful I was just unsure which field it would be in professionally.

Personally, we all need to make mistakes to get better and never thought I'd end up in a "forever" relationship with my first wife........there was far too much resentment on my side to have it be successful. I knew there was someone better out there for me and just needed to find her.

I didn't expect anything, it just happened. But then I'm 24, so maybe ask me in 10 years time!

I'm just thankful for life and the miracle that it is. That it was that sperm and that egg that came to make me. And when you think out of all the zillions of atoms that came together to make all the chairs and frogs and buttons and clouds and drops of water, a few decided to make me.

I'm grateful for that.

No, not at all. I am terribly disappointed at the state of the world, for one. It sometimes reminds me a Kurt Vonnegut novel. For me personally, I have been one of the luckiest people I know, though. I am thankful most days that I have known love and that I have a whole posse of wonderful friends. I wish I hadn't quit writing for thirty years ... I might be halfway decent at it if I had kept up the discipline. I have a wonderful gal in my life who keeps me young. And bitching about things was never my style; it is what it is and you go with the flow.....

Hell No - but I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. And my POPS use to tell me " the only regrets in life that you should have is the regrets for not doing the things you wanted to" I hold true to that statement. You have to make the best of each and every situation that you have. You only get one chance at this!!!

Life never turns out the way you expect it to, but that's the beauty of it. You can't perfectly plan life, but why would you?

Nope. Not at all. There are a few things I would change, but for the most part I can't complain.

Of course not! All commencement addresses should be given by Matt Foley: Motivational Speaker (if Chris Farley weren't dead, that is).

"The best laid plans of mice and men," as Robbie Burns said, "often go awry."

I don't think it is possible to map out your life and have it go as you expect. The beauty of life though is that man is resilient and can adapt and change. Adversity may suck but there is joy at unexpected blessings along the way.

In general yes, most of it has been a high but several years have been quite low and I would change them if I could, but life is a mixed bag I guess. We can control certain aspects but not all.
