I married Bob at 17, when I started dating Bob I was still a virgin, and with his support I explored my emerging sexuality. Throughout our 20s and into our 40s, we enjoyed an active sex life—although I was usually the more adventurous partner. In our 30s, while busy raising our children, we decided to take a break. When I turned 45, we resumed our playful encounters; by 55, we had paused again. However, about three years later, Bob sat me down because he sensed something was off. Initially, I insisted I was okay, but he wasn’t convinced. He expressed his happiness for me, and I admitted that it wasn’t the idea of not playing that bothered me, but missing the thrill of exploring my sexuality with women. Bob encouraged me to follow that desire, and I love him deeply for doing so. I’ve never been unfaithful to Bob, who is far from possessive—instead, he supports my freedom and enjoyment. In my 20s, I had a range of experiences with men, women, couples, swaps, and group sessions, and that openness has only deepened our love over more than 40 years together.

Some years later, we bought a house in Spain and began splitting our time, spending half the year there. About six years ago, we met a delightful Spanish couple, and soon we were often socializing at each other’s places with BBQs—a nod to the relaxed Spanish lifestyle that even embraces skinny dipping in the pool. Long story short, the two of us women clicked, we discussed everything with our partners, and we started exploring intimate moments together. Over time, we grew to care for each other in a way distinct from the love we share with our husbands. After her husband underwent surgery that left him unable to get an erection, he wholeheartedly supported his wife and me exploring this connection—just as Bob had encouraged me. Most of the time, the two of us enjoy our private moments, though Bob sometimes watches because he finds it exciting, even though her husband prefers otherwise. He even suggested that if she missed male company, Bob could join in occasionally. We aren’t after anything more than this fulfilling bond—we’re simply happy chatting, exchanging photos, writing about our sexual journey and sharing kind words. I’ve always seen myself as a very sexual woman, at least in spirit.

Last spring, following the passing of Isabella’s husband, we attended his funeral to support her. Then, in September 2024, Bob and I relocated permanently to Altea on Spain’s Costa Blanca, and we invited Isabella to move in with us. She now has her own bedroom—the one room in the house that's rarely used. This new arrangement marks a fresh start for all of us.

October 2025, Bob and I asked Isabella if she would join us in a commitment ceremony, and her eyes filled with tears as she said yes. We're planning the celebration for next summer, on the same date Bob and I exchanged vows forty-five years ago. Though the law doesn't recognize three-person marriages, we've drawn up legal documents to protect each other and our children. Isabella's son and daughter have become as dear to us as our own two kids, and next year, we'll exchange rings that symbolise our unconventional but deeply loving family.
